I know this is an old thread but I picked up one of those Japanese cypress boards. It's super thin but working really well so far. Been 3 months of medium duty. It's supposed to be naturally disinfecting and self healing with hot water! I like it.

Hmmm, so far very happy with mine. Clean after each use and oil and wax once every 2-3 weeks.

Do you all have any tips for maintenance? I've done the general oiling and waxing, but mine still always dries on and splinters easily. Also always smells likes onions. Do folks disinfect regularly?

Heard the same and took the plunge and got a walnut board. So far........I want to replace our counters. Apparently Walnut spells "D.I.V.O.R.C.E" ;-) kidding of course (well not about "wanting" to replace the counters), very pleased with it so far.

My maple Boos is warped from several years of bad care on my part. I think I will ante up for a walnut board as a replacement.
