Buy cheap ones in bulk, wash regularly and throw them away regularly. They're not stuff you want to pass on to your kids anyway. I think there are some recommendations for towels on the old forum. Search function might help you out.

I tend to machine wash all kitchen towels separately with bleach, even the non-white ones.
You can get inexpensive towels from IKEA for like a dollar a piece. I'm also a recent convert to microfiber kitchen towels in lieu of paper towels. I used to go through a roll of paper towels every 5-6 days, but most functions have been replaced with washable microfiber towels. I think the last roll of paper went 16 days before getting replaced yesterday.

I actually go to my local warehouse store (costco, sams, etc.) and buy the big rolls of automotive faux-shammy cloths that you can tear off the roll, use, re-use a few times and then throw away. They're super absorbant, cheap, and I can re-use them 4-5 times with a quick rinse.

Shit I go through 3 to 4 rolls in a busy weekend. Every two weeks we're buying another 8 or 12 pack. I'm doing something wrong. I even have those blue linen free towels that were recommended awhile ago. I use those more as side towels and not so much for sopping up liquids.

Surgical towels, no lint. They take a licking, and keep on ticking :
