Hello

Me and my wife will be travelling to the Big Apple in two weeks. We will stay there for 6 nights and I want to try amazing and interesting foods, not Michelin food, but also cool lunch places, bakeries, coffee bars and so on...

What is the new NEW YORK Kitchen.?

Wich chef is a ricing star?

Where will the next new michelinstar end up?

Who has the best sour dough?

Cronut?

Cupcakes and coctails?

Nerdie chefy shops?

I currently have the following on my list:

I´v been looking at different starred restaurant, but I want to eat at more then one, therefor eating at two og three 1 starred or likely to be 1 starred restaurants is better then eating at f.ex. Per Se og EMP

I am a resident of New York City (Manhattan, to be exact) so here is my contribution for your trip. Let me know how it goes and what you enjoyed!

Go to either the Momofuku Noodle Bar or the Saam Bar - either one will get you some great pork buns and other wonderful things. At the noodle bar you have to ask for the pork buns as they are not on the menu but are available. If you like baking supply stores, New York Cake and Baking Supply is heavenly. JB Prince is a wonderful place, yes, but quite small.

Go to the Chelsea Market where you can enjoy: some wonderful seafood at The Lobster Place, including fresh sushi, lobster and fantastic oysters (they usually have about 15-20 different kinds). fantastic cake and breads at Amy's bread (have a beautiful slice of chocolate cake or, if you must have cupcakes - I am not much for cupcakes). In the Market is a huge and wonderful kitchen store (Bowery Kitchen Supply), a great big spice and tea place (not my favorite but you may enjoy), an absolutely wonderful Italian food supply and a spectacular Produce store.

For something totally unique, in Soho go to Rice to Riches. They serve about 25-30 different kinds of rice puddings. I like the almond one with sour cherries or the mascarpone one (I prefer the simpler ones). They will let you taste anything you wish. It may sound odd or not good, but trust me it is AMAZING and worth a go.

Regarding Michelin starred places: For a wonderful meal, with plenty of modernist touches, consider Del Posto. Doing lunch at this kind of place, rather than dinner, can be a way to make your dollars go further. Another of the starred restaurants that is an incredible experience is Bouley. David Bouley has been doing things right for decades and this restaurant is no exception. It is the most beautiful, romantic and luxurious place I have ever eaten and nearly every meal I have ever enjoyed there was perfect. Again, lunch is the meal to have! Finally, Le Bernardin will not disappoint and it is plenty cutting edge without being over the top money. If you like fish, this is THE PLACE.

Standing in line at 6:30 in the morning for one of Dominique Ansel's cronuts (and maybe not getting one) is, in my opinion, a total waste of time. I have had them at a number of places and they all taste about the same: greasy, gooey and way too heavy for breakfast. If you must, then at least have his Kouign Amann (DKA) which is what he originally became know for.

Now to get away from the high cuisine, head down the the lower east side and have fantastic tacos, made from the freshest ingredients, at Tacombi. Stroll chinatown and find Prosperity Dumpling where you can have a box of 5-6 dumplings for $1! Go to St. Mark's Place (near 1st Ave.) and taste all you can - gorge yourselves on wonderful street food that is fresh and cheap. My favorite is JumYum where 3 pork or duck buns are $6 and they serve wonderful, pungent kimchi soup, if you like that sort of thing. Finally, don't miss the prime rib sandwich at Mario Batali's Eataly - find the carving stand (it is a little hard to sort the place out) and don't settle for anything else! You will get a HUGE serving of rare, succulent shaved prime rib on a beautiful Italian baguette that is enough to feed two reasonably hungry people. Enjoy the spectacle and take in some absurdly expensive food shopping as long as you are there.

I second the recommendation for Booker & Dax. Try to get a reservation for WD-50. They are closing on November 30th and it was one of my most fun dinner experience and I'm quite sad not being able to go back.

So far: we ate at luksus at tørst in brooklyn. Really cool take on food and beer and good prices. Bouley Waa very Nice, Amazing bread, good food. We actually got to stuffed. Chelsea Marked Was a spectacle, we visited saturday and the place where packed. We where very hungry, and had to many shoppingbags so we did not get the full experience, but food and beer Was awesome... We also had great coffee at joes ... Jdprince was also good. To day we are having lunsj at le barnadin. Thanks for you'r help so far
