Whipping siphon - funny taste

I'm curious if anybody else gets a funny aftertaste when they make soda water in their whipping siphon? Mine's got a sour-milk-like taste, which would make sense as I made burrata as my first recipe in it, but I've washed it in the dishwasher twice. I've also heard of people getting funny after tastes when using certain cartridges, but I've bought a couple boxes of different types and the taste is the same. Maybe I need to do a deeper cleaning?

Yes, sounds like you need a deeper cleaning. Be sure you fully disassemble it, including pulling out the o-ring, and holding the valve open while running water through it. There are a few nooks and crannies where you can get some flavor-saver action going

Dishwasher doesnt guarantee clean siphon, pull trigger on siphon, clean in between valve, pass through some amount of water to rinse rests of burrata, these all little holes and wrinkles in syphon carry little bits of previous dish "flavour" affecting in sour-milk-like taste. If it doesn't help, you need to wait for more experienced user opinion..

What brand cartridges are you using? The isi brand is the best, other cheap brands often contain mechanical oils with really bad flavors.

I was using Kayser but I just got a box of isi. Gonna try one of these deep cleans and give the isi a whirl. Thanks guys!

Some chemicals from the soda water tend to react when you put them in some container creating a different taste. Sounds like you need a thorough cleaning. Try to sterilize it to eliminate the smell from the dishwasher you use.

My wife and I have a pair of ISI's, and I've found that the smaller one, which we use exclusively for cream, will often smell foul when we take it out of storage. The larger one, which I use for cream sometimes, but most often for infusing spirits, never ever smells off.
Just hypothesizing, but maybe the ethanol kills off anything that may form bacteria or mold? Either way you should probably infuse some booze, because it makes delicious cocktails.
