More excited to give this year than receive. Got my dad a sweet 210 gyuto from cktg. Not much on my wish list. Top of my list is a proteak cutting board. Also intrigued by an IPad kitchen mount stand, maybe a good auto coffee bean grinder, and a few books.

Most of the stuff on my wish list is classified 'big ticket', meaning over $100. Not the most suitable for family gift requests. I'll be happy with another H&B apron. Or a watch.

Nothing on my list that is realistically affordable for my family. I'm pretty desperate for some test sieves though so I might treat myself after Christmas.

I think that is just the 'new look'. Marketing and all.

Mine has it, and yes it is tacky. I'm thinking of doing an Alton Brown-esque flame paint job to really heighten the effect.

They say I am tough to buy for. So this year, I gave a list and said I'd be more than happy with any one of them. Refrigerated centrifuge, Rotary evaporator, freeze dryer, combi steam oven, new induction range......I have a feeling I'm going to get coal in my stocking......

I went through the "Give the Gift of Smarter Cooking" post on the CS blog and it inspired me. I have asked for the Thermocouple dual probe thingy with some probes and for the Kitchen as Laboratory book. I always have a book list that I encourage people to use if they want to buy me a gift. Of course, a coupe set for my PacoJet would be nice but I don't dare ask for it...
