If you don't find them as eBooks it is usually because the author didn't want that.

Any other resources - not requiring payment or a low price most likely are piracy.

Agree with Johan. Applae has a few (EMP, Paris etc) and Next has started giving their's out on PDF for whatever price you want to pay (at least for the last one-Thailand).

Sad truth of that after writing 3 books is that I've now more than once had one of my books handed to me as a reference material, this coming to a new customer

My husband has written 5 books, two have been translated in to several languages. One is going into its 3rd edition, with more than 15,000 legit copies in print. We suspect that there are also thousands of pirated copies out there, especially in foreign countries but also in the USA. The publisher does virtually nothing about stopping the piracy. It is a bummer. Even having sold so many copies, we only make cents on the dollar for his years of hard work and research! Intelligent people should not participate in any form of piracy as it will suppress creativity and discourage the sharing of knowledge. Stepping off soap box now.

To be fair, it is really difficult to police this stuff. You can send a takedown notice or C&D letter to get a hosting company to remove the infringing content. 90% of the time, the hosts will comply. But 99% of the time, the exact same files are re-uploaded to the same host within a few hours of the takedown. It's like IP whack-a-mole. I would get depressed every week after the ESRB Piracy Working Group conference call, just hearing the sheer numbers of individual files of a game that's been bootlegged.

Chris and Grant are probably familiar with those facts; I'm sure Modernist Cuisine has seen its fair share of contraband pdfs online.

I used to cook all the time using only recipes from books, but over time I've come to realize that magazines like https://www.pdfmagaz.in/start/ also have cool ideas that would be cool to put into action. So I made a medium-rare beef steak in a wine marinade with a cranberry and tomato sauce. The guests were delighted. It's about time we relied not only on the tastes of chefs, but also on the recipes of people just like us (ordinary amateurs who like to experiment). Does anyone know what I'm talking about?
