We have a friend who fancies herself a cook; her and her husband used to host holiday dinner get togethers with our group of friends. One year she proudly exclaimed that she didn't like to season her food when cooking, preferring instead to let her guests season their individual portions to taste.

I had to think of the last time I went to an actual dinner party, I'm so used to being the de-facto host that I can't recall the last one I went to.

I guess a relatives then girlfriend showing up at thanksgiving pretty well stoned and proceeding to complain about illegal immigrants... My wife is half mexican. It was fairly entertaining in that trainwreck kinda way.

Otherwise I'm with Brendan, really don't have any bad experiences.

The funniest foul was me. I like my wine. A 14 course tasting menu for 6 people with wine pairing.... you can see where this is going. Everybody raved about everything, it had turned out great. Except some of the pairing got screwed up and I was a little puzzled (and medium toasted). The next morning I went to get something from the refrigerator in the garage. While everybody had the correct number of wines It seems I forgot to serve THREE courses....oops.

It's to the point that whenever people come over they expect a nice meal, i have to explicitly tell them when it will be just for a visit. Classical conditioning at it's best.

People turning up empty handed or two hours late are the two worst things.

From a host...not much, I've been pretty lucky I guess!
