Question Of The Day #48
michaelnatkin
What do you do for lunch at work? Do you go out to eat every day? Make your own? If you make it, is it mostly dinner leftovers or do you prepare something particular for lunch? What are your favorite things to bring?

Walk into the kitchen and open the fridge, if I travel, Yelp the area and usually I kinda know what is good there since much of what I do is repeat travel.
International travel, people tend to love to showcase the best there is. Rule of thumb tends to be local, preferably small hole in the wall and nothing chain oriented

Honestly, this is my weakest meal of the day. I never know what to do in the short time frame I have to put something together without much planning. A Chefsteps course on good lunch meals in 20 mins or less would be helpful ;-p

In the 20 minutes I have, I pack a ham and cheese sandwich (or a variation of deli meat and cheese), an apple, cookies, fruit snack or something else. Water to drink. Something like that more or less. Can only pack as much as I can eat in the time I have.

I try to think of modular items that will recombine into a variety of dishes over the course of the week. Example: roast chicken thighs with shallots can be thrown together with noodles & veggies one day, and into a salad the next. I also always keep a jar of lemony Caesar dressing in the fridge so it's at the ready. (I always keep jam jars for this purpose.)

Like wise, When my wife and I are not away on business (separate), I love to make lunch/ brunch.
Today was a ground sausage/onion/garlic/cheddar cheese omelet.

I bring leftovers from dinner, although sometimes I will make a batch of grains and protein to only bring as my lunch for the week.

Try to limit buying lunch to 1-2 days a week and its usually a food truck when I do. Otherwise I'll either do leftovers, often re-purposed, or cook something Sunday to get me through the early part of the week.

I tend to keep leftovers for dinner, and buy my lunch every day. My building and the office next door each get a food truck every day, which is nice. The complex is adjacent to a shopping center with several fast food options, and just across the way is Burbank Town Center with a huge variety of sit-down service options.
