Hi! I just got my Searzall and, as a fairly low-tech home cook, I'm a bit concerned about keeping & using the small butane tanks indoors. I don't even have a place to store them. Anyone else using one of these at home? Any advice?

You should be using the green propane tanks recommended by the searzall folks. Mine sits right on the counter right beside my knife block and blender, no worries at all about their safety as long as you aren't concerned about children getting a hold of them.

Yep, what Brendan said re: the green propane tank. I keep mine in an under-counter cabinet when not in use (with the Searzall attachment in it's little box), but there should be no real issues leaving it out assembled.
Regarding using it, just make sure whatever you are searing on can take the heat - I generally do it in an oven proof pan, but a reasonable quality sheet pan or broiler pan would probably work too. I probably do most of my searing over the stovetop with the hood vent on, except for touch-up type stuff.

Yes, absolutely! I bought exactly what they recommended. My trepidation was primarily related to indoor use. Now that I'm on holiday break I plan to put it together & start a project! Grilled oysters, I think...

Quick update: I'd intended to try it out tonight but ended up balking at the vague directions on how to ignite the flame—I ASSUME the on/off switch sparks the flame when you turn it to the on position? But b/c the thing is so potentially fraught, I decided to wait & ask here. I'm probably being overly cautious, but...

Think of the yellow ON/OFF switch as a safety. Nothing happens when you turn it to the ON position, but it allows you to push the button IN (or pull the trigger if you will)-- that ignites it. You may have to push the button a couple of times. You then hold in the button after it fires to keep it lit, and you can press the little grey button on top which will do that for you. Hope that makes sense.

Even if you weren't thinking about safety while storing (and I am too), it's so unwieldy that I'm having a hard time finding storage for it. It's too tall to even sit on the countertop tucked under a cabinet, and too almost-top heavy to go into a cabinet...
