I follow people that produce things I like, the majority of them are not celebs, famous nor well known.

A lot of the people in the cooking world that I follow are actually kind of useless on social media. Occasionally you get some good random stuff (last summer's Ice Bucket Challenge offered up a few gems, for example). One of my favorite follows is David Chang; he's always posting high test food porn.

It's also fun following the places we saw in Spain last year. I'll be scrolling down my FB news feed in the morning, and all of a sudden I'll get to a block of posts that are about 8 hours old where it's all Pakta, Tickets, Lolita Taperia, Kokotxa, La Boqueria, etc.

I've basically arranged it so my follows on instagram are either food, golf, or hockey related so I can just open the app and follow it down the rabbit hole. I don't know if I have any favorites per se but I'm pretty sure I've followed every James Beard/Star Chefs award nominee in the past 4-5 years as well as all of the popular celebrity chefs out there as well. I actually like it for a source of inspiration.

I don't do Twitter or Instagram. The only reason I have Facebook is so I can stalk my ex as well as impress upon my family that I will always be a better cook than they are:)-

I follow a lot of different food-centric folks, not all of them are famous.

I think there's something to be learned from everyone.

I appreciate any hints, tips, ideas, photos, etc. that are shared...big or small.

I really like the ChefSteps twitter feed...and I'm not just saying that because I've hung-out here some for the past three years.

I think Ruhlman's Twiiter feed is entertaining because he engages the 'audience' quite a bit.

Same with Mario Batali...he takes the time to answer a lot of questions from the general 'audience' and I think that's commendable.

Same with Alton.

I like Hank Shaw...

One of my favorite FB follows has actually been Russ Parsons, the food editor for the LA Times. (And author of the excellent book 'How To Read A French Fry') He is always engaging the readers, and actually has a lot of chefs and sommliers who follow him. So the comments section of his shares is often pretty eclectic.

I tag/follow some because I like what they have done and if I've tried their recipes. I don't "follow" most of them out per se. I'll use an odd post for inspiration, or get an idea and do a search. Oddly many simply remind me of my own past. They mention their memories and it stimulates my own. Example: watched heston's roast chicken episode on youtube - he mentions the roast chickn on a bun and that he used to grab and take home a rotisserie chicken in a bag. That reminded me of my mother's roast chicken and the special european-style rolls (she was born in germany) she would order from a small bakery to serve with the chicken. So, next time I made a roast chicken I did the exact same thing.......that part of cuisine is undersold IMHO. No exes to stalk as it were. I don't have Cheryl's skills. :-)

I have always liked this dude... http://justhungry.com. He keeps it pretty straight forward and provides good explanations with a bit of history.

I used to like Chef Keem, he had a solid sauerkraut recipe and other "German stuff" but something happened and he seem to become "bitter". His site is pretty weak but I always go back for his sauerkraut...

I like the japanese guy cause he had a Japanese recipe (Katsudon) that I made for breakfast. From there I funneled around his site and found some other tasty bites that worked well for my daughter's bento box.

I also adore anything I can find on Susan Feniger. She is a pretty tough chef that moves things around with new ideas. Plus, her and that Mary lady got me through eating and cooking at college while watching their PBS shows.

This has been a fantastic read! What a wealth of information. I do like David Lebovitz, his chocolate sorbet is wonderful. I'm also enjoying all the personal memories some have shared. I'm really starting to warm up to this Chef Steps gig;)

Vetri is excellent. He doesn't have a whole lot of followers, so it really is like following a friend.
