I saw it on tom chollicos restaurant show, some chef called it "Faux Gras" and the reviewers seemed to like it.

There's a sushi place around here that blowtorches it to fairly nice effect, although they'd have a better time with a searzall, and I find that torched avocado tends to need some finishing salt (although instances obviously vary).
