Microwave Confit Egg Yolk
David_Henley_36942
Would it be possible to cook an egg yolk in EVOO in the microwave like Chefsteps does with vegetables? I only have a microwave at my office and would love to top a salad with an egg yolk today.

EDIT: DON'T DO THIS! The egg will explode all over the microwave.

You could do it, however, I suspect it would be much different than what is desired (unless you want a hard boiled yolk). The temperature effect on eggs and plants will be different (different cell types). You might try it with oil alone and remove it and see if the residual heat will get you where you want (but will likely be in a hurry). Perhaps even safer if you boiled water in the microwave and tried using that residual heat on a whole egg 9similar to what Heston does stove top). It will likely take a few tries, but if we can find a formula, that would be pretty cool. :-)

So my first one exploded, so I just put oil and the yolk in a ziplock and put it in water from the coffee machine. Worked as needed.

hmmmm, this makes sense given the pressure that builds up.......although at 20% am a bit surprised.

Who knows. It's an old microwave. I might try again with my one at home.
