Pressure Cooker concerns & confusion

Hi all,

I hope I didn't miss the rules for this subforum as I couldn't find any.

Anyways, I have this T-Fal

My question/confusion is I haven't found a video explaining how to operate this perfectly, and the instructions were mediocre. So it has a pressure locked handle (the yellow tab that pops up) and a dial setting as well that will vent under pressure. I think the yellow tab pops well below 1 bar of pressure, but a friend who uses his a lot more often says that as soon as the handle yellow tab flips up and locks that is when you start counting. My concern though is at that point I don't believe it is under 1 bar of pressure and am not sure how to tell on this style of pressure cooker when it IS fully pressurized. Any advice/anyone else use this "dial" style?

So basically I want it JUST hot enough for steam to escape, but not hot enough for much steam to escape.

Sounds exactly like the Fagor, I have one of those, bought a Kuhn....

■ Turn the heat down to a medium setting as soon as the pressure regulator valve allows steam to escape at a constant rate, making a regular hissing noise.

I have one with a similiar dial setup. The manual says to set to the pressure you want and then heat until there is some steam coming out but not much. So by design there is some inevitable venting going on and it can be really hard to see the steam coming out unless there's a lot of it, which you don't really want. I never use that thing any more since i got my kuhn rickon.
