JLD 612 PV High

Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone has had an issue with their JLD controller giving a high reading? Noticed the problem when I cracked 63*C egg and the white was still clear. I tested the probe against a Taylor digital meat thermometer in ice water and the JLD is reading 4* (the Taylor is reading 2*). This is the first time I've had this issue, and would prefer a fix rather than having to increase my set temperature by 2* to get the desired results. Anyone have any ideas?

What @Leigh said, and I'd keep an eye on the JLD, like said it can start drifting and if it is shorting you can get seriously unfun results.

Oh, by the way, one should not have the expectation that a PT-100 sensor will read the correct temperature without calibration. My favorite method for calibration is to use warm water (about 100 F) and trust a digital fever thermometer with guaranteed 2/10th of a degree calibration. I bought one at a Walgreen's once when they were having a buy-1-get-1-free sale and checked that it read 98.6 degrees when appropriately operated. The two can be easily checked against each other to confirm there is no drift in my reference point. My Taylor meat probe reads 0.8 F lower than reality, it would seem. If I rely on it as my standard, I notice the resultant difference in meat texture.

I experienced a drift to 'higher than previou's temperature readings once that was attributable to poor electrical contact in the PT-100 sensor's crimp-on spade lugs. I removed the spade lugs that came on the sensor and replaced them with my own. This solved the problem. I admit that I was concerned that the JLD612 had a quality problem, and was quite relieved that the problem lay elsewhere.

When I used them a lot I actually would compare to a certified thermometer for every use.

The JLD can be quite funny depending on probe and whatnot else.

I'd measure something like 60C and then with a reference set the fudge

factor, Menu 0089, Psb - > you can compensate there.
