Polyscience 300 or VP215?

Hello chefs!

I'm taking the dive and investing in one or the other for home use unless someone has a better recommendation. I'm leaning towards the 215 based on the reviews, however I wanted to see if anyone else out there has any input that might assist in this decision. I like the presets for the 300, but it is a dry piston pump, which might warrant replacement sooner, and is also louder. There is very scant information about on the performance and reliability. I've searched egullet, and haven't seen the best reviews overall. Any reason I should choose otherwise? Or perhaps a different make / model altogether? The budget is around 1k.

I have the VP112, but unfortunately i wasn't able to use the accessory port. My vacuum chamber had a problem holding a vacuum and after chatting with tech support, they told me it was my accessory port. They said it has been a throne in their side and they have eliminated it from their current models because kept breaking. That being said, it is an easy fix if your accessory port breaks (assuming you don't want to use it anymore).

VP112 owner here as well. I have yet to use the accessory port. What do you use it for?

Had the vp215 for a long time, I don't think the 300 warrants the extra $$$, piston vs oil I think is completely moot for home use, Both of them will do compression and flash pickle. The programs are interesting - but as I said, not sure it is worth it.

I (and many others here) have the VP-215 and am very satisfied with it. I use it quite a bit more than I expected I would. HTH

FWIW, I have the VP112 and the accesory port has it's advantages with the accessories (and am pleased over all). That said, I have seen good reviews regarding the 215 (many here) and wouldn't have any reservations (funding was not where it needed to be at the time of my purchase). I don't envision the dry pump being an issue, but perhaps someone has a better insight into this (VP 112 has no need for oil changes either). I doubt you would be disspointed with either. Let us know (please) your experience with either unit.
