It's a beast. While I have not used the Vitamix, the Waring has conquered everything I've thrown at it.

Morgan, I have a vitamix that is about 4 years old and although pleased with it, if I were in your shoes (and I soon will be-base on the blender base is loose), I would opt for the warimg (and will when it is time). Hope that is helpful.

I do like the variable speed. Sorry @Morgan , I just cost you a little more money...but still well below your budget.

Having the variable speed thingy is rather nice, but that is just a different model

Ditto. The only downside to the Waring is the stupid XTREME graphics.
