Hi guys,

I just bought a VP112S chamber sealer and have a few quick questions hoping someone can answer.

1. Does anyone know if I need to refill the oil etc in the VP112S? I THOUGHT it was a oil based pump, but the manual doesn't say anything. Honestly for a 500+ piece of equipment the manual feels lacking in information.

2. Can I use food saver ribbed style bags with this sealer? I know you can't use the smooth ones with a edge sealer but vice versa?

Thanks Brian! Didn't look at it this way. Oddly enough have used it with piping bags for fluid gels and purees......guess I couldn't see the forest.... Trees were in the way....

I don't think there's any reason you couldn't use food saver bags, but the fact that you don't have to is a big plus as there are cheaper options. If you already have some on hand, I'd use them, but I'd buy something cheaper next time.

The food saver bags are embossed with channels to help evacuate air when the bag collapses. In a chamber this isn't necessary as the bag won't collapse until after it is sealed and the vacuum outside is released. It shouldn't hurt anything to use these bags though.

Yes, pump is oil-less. I usually get my bags at the link below and they are pretty inexpensive as you will see. Not sure of the life expectancy. I've had mine for about 4 years I think and I tend to push it a little (at least I think I do). The only thing I've had to replace was the bag pin holder. The reason for that was I tried a modified prune coal recipe (essentially - Grant's from MC) and the sugar is basically a caramel that stuck all the parts and when I went to use it for my next bag, I had to take it apart because of the caramel that built up inside the holder. It was $12 part that I was able to put in myself in about 10 minutes. I use it for Heston's triple cooked fries, pickling, aerating, infusing (e.g.-smoked oil or syrup), general food storage and once in a while for SV cooking ;-) etc etc. I think you will be pleased.

Darn at no food saver bags. Had just bought a few big rolls :P. As for no oil. Is it oilless? I (for some reason) thought this had the same big oil pump as the more expensive models. What kind of life expectancy do they usually have?
