Sansaire Torch???
Alex_36374
Saw that Sansaire put out a new product, a torch intended for Sous Vide cooking. Is it just a plain old blow torch!? Or is it kind of unique like the Searzall?
Thoughts?

Seems like it's a standard blowtorch.

"List price:$199.99. Made in U.S.A with global components by Sansaire and Bernzomatic. "
Hence you are better of just buying
http://www.amazon.com/Bernzomatic-TS8000-Intensity-Trigger-Start/dp/B0019CQL60
for a 1/3 of the price? I have that and it's great.
Oh wait, you get a stainless steel searing rack and a tray! ha.

Looks like the source of the flame is wider and due to the inverse square law it might have a bit different effect than a regular TS8000 torch. Can't imagine it's much, but I'm always surprised at how it effects light in photography.
That said, if you are going for altering the heat source the searzall still seems like the better tool.
Having a standard blowtorch around is handy to have outside of cooking. I've soldered copper pipe, made brewing fixtures, used it to cut glass, started fires and I didn't even need to buy a different torch head. I love my TS8000.

Sweet Jesus, that price is insane.
In the bad way.

You can get everything you need to match that setup for literally $130 less. I have no idea who the market is for this product.

I guess to be fair, the price is comparable to a TS8000, Searzall, and Steak Decorator combo.

Seems like a lot for just the tip. Would love Chefsteps or someone to do a side-by-side. I could see how for some folks, the Searzall needs special attention in setting up, where this is out of the box. Again, is it really just a fancy blowtorch in terms of output.

Scott just posted this to his blog :
http://seattlefoodgeek.com/2015/08/introducing-the-sansaire-steak-aging-sauce-and-sansaire-searing-kit/
. Sounds as if the
Sansaire Steak Aging Sauce
is a hybrid between fish sauce and Amino Acids. according to Scott the torch kit includes "a heavy-duty stainless steel seering rack, plus an enameled tray to catch drippings and protect your countertops from the intense heat of the flame. " He also says that the torch has a "larger flame size and increased power", and claims the torch has no "touch taste".
Personally, I call bullshit. Seems like a way to make an extra buck off the backs of unsuspecting consumers who don't know any better IMO. More power to Scott and his crew for putting this together for the uninitiated, nothing wrong with a healthy dose of capitalism - but I certainly would not by this package.

I'd be curious to hear what any of the folks here have to say about the Steak Aging Sauce ...

Searzall makes great grilled cheese.
