Waring Pro PVS1000 vacuum sealer
duckjockey_214947
Has anyone tried the Waring Pro pistol vacuum sealer, and used the bags for sous vide cooking? I'm wondering if the valve will hold up in the heat and immersion of the cookers?
Thanks,

If used for sealing it "should" be fine. It likely won't be able to used with liquids (unless frozen) or to infuse fruits and such. If looking for a sealer, there are many out there. If looking for a vacuum, consider a vacuum chamber for some of the other features listed above.

The video on their website shows it being used to cook sous vide, so you should be fine. I used to use the Ziploc sous vide bags, which are basically the same thing as the Waring but you have a hand pump instead of the pistol. It worked fine... no worries about the valve -- at least, not on shorter cooks. I think I'd prefer an inexpensive edge sealer over the Waring though. Between the valve and the zip-top of the bag, there's a lot that can leak compared to a Foodsaver bag. If you're already going to spend $60 for a pistol model, I'd spend a bit more and get a well-reviewed edge sealer. The only advantage I can see to the Waring is that it's small. If counter or cabinet space makes having an edge sealer prohibitive, go for the pistol. But edge sealers really aren't all that big.
