Thermomix now in the USA

I heard they were coming. I have no affiliation-they reached out to me due to previous correspondence with them overseas. I have one and like it, that's it. There's some advantages and it does come at a bit of a price. The selling price will be $1,299.00 plus shipping, handling and sales tax and will include all TM5 accessories. My take on it is it's a great family piece as it does many things and makes many things more convenient. I really like it for custards, fluid gels, in addition to the traditional risottos etc. I tend to not use their recipes (though I'm sure they work).

My pleasure Jack. I am personally glad they are here and it is available and it is a very convenient unut. But the price tag is large. I was fortunate in buying one direct from Spain and it was much less even with shipping and a step down transformer. When home, I don't use it more than 3-4 times per week. I used my PS circulator and pressure cooker more......but I still like the convenience. Everyone will simply have to weigh (pun intended) if it's for them.

I've checked out Thermomix in the past, and I've been able to find little information about it. I get that it's a high speed blender (borderline emulsifier) and that it has a heating element where you can actually set how hot your stuff will get. Am I missing anything? I'm not arguing with the price, I just fail to see how it's worth it. Granted, I'm not in a professional kitchen, and would have no business owning one, just asking for a little more information, that's all.

It's not for everyone and it is not cheap. Every function listed can be done using other things, it's a matter if someone likes to have all the features in one appliance and if they'll use it enough to justify the price

I appreciate the link. There's no way I could justify the expense. Just like all the other fantastical appliances that I really want, but will most likely never actually own.

I agonized over it and ended up grabbing one on ebay from Spain at a fraction of the price. I wasn't sure until I started making a conscious decision to use it. For me. It is convenient for family meals and frees up hands while doing other things. Regardless of soups, risotto, fluid gels, custards, caramelized onions etc etc etc. It is one more pair of hands.....which means I can continue to try to fit 10 lbs of a meal plan in a 5lb bag :-). So because I use it allot for the family AND some of the more contemporary\modern things but also at a lesser price. So in my case i placed it higher uo due to all tbose things being in line (and i already had a circulator etc) My wish list is constantly getting shuffled so you're not alone :-) I don't think Vorwerk/Thermomix is going anywhere and if the time comes to consider it, then it does. If not it won't make you or I worse in the kitchen.

I was just reaching out to their Canada headquarters in Vancouver, not to long of a drive from Seattle. I would love to see if I can get it in US, but if I can get it in Canada I would make the trek up there to pick one up. I have been admiring them for a long time, and I have been needing a blender really bad, and don't want to spend 250 on a vitamix. It is more spendy, but can do so much more and would eliminate some other gear I want and need. Next is a ChamberVac. So please pass on the information, any idea if it will be available this year in the US?

Thanks Todd. Once in hand I may take you up on it. Do you feel the blender part of the thermomix is better or at par with a high power blender you get in the store?

You may find yourself not following their recipes (I'm not sure if I've done one yet) :-)

As for the blender, it is definitely not better and is OK as a blender but the amount necessary seems to be greater than a blender with a more narrow vessel. I still use my vitamix on a regular basis. That said, the Thermomix "turbo" setting is fine for many applications.

I am one of the first Thermomix consultants in the US, and would be happy to either help anyone get one, or tell you more about it. Todd is correct, it is selling here for $1299, and shipping is free. For non-California residents there is no tax.The US model TM5 is made specifically for this market - same Thermomix, but wired for the North American market, has approved UL ratings, and meets and exceeds all FDA standards. Hey Tod, I have just bought one. It will help in our restaurant for some creams, gels, Ice Cream base before Pacojet, chocolate tempering I hope etc... Any useful advise you would like to give to a new Thermomix owner? Thanks.

Hi Goran, What type of dishes will you be serving at the restaurant? What ingredients etc as well? It's quite flexible and is great as a heated blender as you know, but also to keep sauces warm, fluid gels, warm nut purees (pistachio is on I use it for frequently-the heat helps extract the oil), risotto (any rice actually), ice cream bases as you mention. so much. Let me know more about your restaurant (link??) and i might be able to suggest more things.
