chamber vacuum
Sumit__65166
has anyone seen or used one of these?
http://www.orved.com/prodotti.php?cat=1&idp=87
the height is unusually large for something small. i guess, we can expect more companies to innovate in this area in not so distant future?

mysterious looking chamber vacuum sealer from minipak?
https://twitter.com/antoinette_b/status/335844128749404161
Jack_Mayer_85396
@Chris
- Is this new PolyScience chamber vac something that will be carried here on ChefSteps? If so, I'll buy one from you today or tomorrow!
Edward_33547
@Jack_Mayer
- Unfortunately, we do not carry this sealer yet because we have not yet evaluated it. We have a request into PolyScience to get a unit to put through the paces, but given that we just put in the request it could take a little while to get this new sealer up for sale on ChefSteps (assuming that it lives up to our expectations!). In fact we will be looking at both the PolyScience and the Minipack unit.
We'll keep you posted.

Hi
@Edward
, once again you come through in spades! Thanks for the info!

@edward
- Can you confirm that the chefs cube from minipac is real? Just doesn't look like something they would make and I can't see their name on it due to the pic quality. Thanks for any info or input!!
Sumit__65166
the supposedly minipack looks like a vertical chamber like one of these
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Cryovac-machine-chamber-single-bar-lqiuid-or-solid-ok-suits-small-kitchen-/261221233199?pt=AU_Business_Industrial_Restaurant_Catering_Equipment&hash=item3cd1ffb22f
i like the idea of vertical chamber for home use as it will take less room and easy to work with liquids.
Edward_33547
@Tucker
- I just spoke with Minipack this morning. The Cube is a a Minipack America product that will release sometime late this summer. They gave me some approximate specs to share with you:
Size: ~11 inches cubed.
Capacity: 10 x 20 bag
Pump: Oil. Should be capable of 4 mbars.
Touch screen for simple controls and programming
Sounds like a promising chamber sealer. We'll get one to evaluate as soon as they are available and will let you know what we think.
Sumit__65166
interesting fact about of evox 30 - you can vacuum outside the chamber too using channel bags.
also you can use external containers.
it's around $2,300 in australia
haven't found any reviews on this but if someone does please let me know.
mchodera_10961
Just off the phone with PolyScience; their "personal" chamber vac will be launched in August, if they're on time
Corey_37766
@mchodera
- Thanks for the info! I was going to pull the trigger on purchasing a Vacmaster VP112, but maybe I should wait.
tuckatodd
@mchodera
- I would wait. I think you will like the bigger chamber and pump!!
Jack_Mayer_85396
@Corey
- I'm in the same boat and have decided to wait to see what the PolyScience unit looks like.
@Edward
and the CS team should be getting one to evaluate and, if its up to snuff, they'll make it available here on their store. I recently saw the VP-215 for $899 as well; if you're in a hurry.
Corey_37766
The VP-112 is $549.00 shipped from the Webstaurant Store....hmmm.
Brendan_Lee_56950
That's it's normal price at qualitymatters.com that's where I got mine. Great customer service, I was headed out of town for xmas and they drop shipped one for me to make it in time.
DiggingDogFarm_65362
Did that Quality Matters place close down?
Their website has been down for some time now...at least a week.
Brendan_Lee_56950
that's interesting, site not working for me either.
Jack_Mayer_85396
@Martin
and
@Brendan
- same problem for me ... I'm looking to finally get a chamber sealer after the Holidays. Kind of waiting until
@Edward
and the CS team get the PolyScience and Minipak units to review. Otherwise, I'm gonna go with the VP-215
com-chefsteps
isup.me says it's down for everyone.
DiggingDogFarm_65362
I'm leaning toward the VP-215 because of the oil pump.
I found a butcher supply that seems to have the best price......$879.00 including shipping and insurance.
I'm torn, I'd really like to have one but that's a lot of money....I'm not sure i'd use it enough to make it "pay" but I'm desperately searching for reasons to justify it. LOL!
Brendan_Lee_56950
I felt that way and to be honest I use the chamber more than any other appliance I own, probably at least once a day.
reub_50398
@DiggingDogFarm
I got the VP-215 from qualitymatters.com earlier this year and I've been really happy with it. I use it much more than I thought I would.
I'd say try calling if you can find a cached phone number as holiday shopping can take down unprepared websites this time of year, but their twitter hasn't been active since April. Hmm...

I have a recent update from PolyScience that the 300 will be available on December 16th. We should get one for eval sometime late next month given their preorders and holiday shipping. As for the Cube, we don't have a recent update from Minipack. Last we heard they were expecting late 1Q 2014, but I would assume it could be pushed back to early to mid 2Q 2014 as they move from design into production. Will keep you posted.
Chris_Cook_15681
I got the VP-210 about 2.5 years ago. I agree with what Brendan says about how much use it gets - I use it probably more than anything else in the kitchen except for the fridge and stove. So I think of it as a kitchen appliance now on the level of those items, which sort of puts the price in perspective. Or at least that how I rationalize it.
Jack_Mayer_85396
Hi
@Edward
- thanks for the update!
@Martin
, I'm thinking along the same lines with the VP-215.
Brandon_Byrd_40557
New video of the 300 series chamber vac from Polyscience
. I'm looking forward to hearing some reports from end users (especially with respect to flash pickling and vacuum marinating) but this looks like it might be the one for me.
tshewman
Toy....I mean tool list ;-) never ends. Looks sweet!
Jack_Mayer_85396
@Edward
, the video looks pretty cool; have you received your test unit yet? I'm most curious to hear what the CS team thinks of this sealer ... Do any of you have an opinion on the VP-215? Thanks in advance for your assistance!
Edward_33547
@Jack_Mayer
:
Mid December PS pushed availability of the 300 to Jan 24th for first shipments, so we still have not seen a sample and I do not have any information on when we will see one. I believe PS has a large backlog of customer orders that will need to ship before we see it, so we may (still!) be looking at a month or so for us to get one.
I'll let you know when I get a tracking # for an inbound sample unit.
Jack_Mayer_85396
@Ed
, thanks for the information, much appreciated. I hope you had a wonderful Holiday Season!
Jack_Mayer_85396
@Martin
- have you made a decision yet on a chamber sealer? I re-read a couple of threads on eGullet forums yesterday and am leaning toward the VP-215. I've waited this long, a little longer won't kill me ...
