Non-Chamber Vac Sealers
mark.dennehy
So for those of us who won't have eight hundred euro to hand for a few months, is there any particular non-chamber vacuum sealer that's particularly good down around the hundred euro mark at the moment?

I'd save the money and use ziplock if it is for sous vide.

There should be a good number available and the newer ones have a "moist" setting. I agree with Johan if you don't plan to do long cooks and don't mind playing wih extra weighting items (utensils in the bags etc) to ensure they submerge (not for everything but somethings). That said, if you don't mind freezing some of your fats and liquids you should be able to find a decent vacuum sealer in that price range. While you do that, keep an eye open on auction sites as they sometimes have chamber vacuum sealers (if they have EU auctions). The chamber vacuum will come over time as long as you dedicate a few$ a week, it won't be long. :-)

used this for quite some time, they have some in the € 100 range, In general I used it to have products vacuumed for extended storage time, second for souse vide.

I agree with both Todd's and Johan's comments ...

If you're on a tight budget, a vacuum cleaner, a plastic bag, a straw and some tape work really really well.
