Fire Brick Sources
ParkerCook_66639
I've been looking for an inexpensive way to turn my old kettle grill into a reliable smoking unit and I've heard piling the charcoal behind a couple fire bricks maintains the heat. The problem is I can't find fire brick anywhere! Any ideas? Also, if anyone smokes on their grill do you have any cool mods/tricks that help you out?

I use the Smokenator with the DigiQ DX2 from BBQ Guru in my Webber Kettle and they work great.

Almost any lumber/building supply around here has firebricks. I live in New York, the state, not the city, thank God! LOL
The A-Maze-N smokers work great as a smoke generator as long as temperatures are not crazy hot. They generate smoke in a consistent manner and you don't have the hassle of adding chips or chunks,.
I would also search for a kiln supply and the like near by, they would surely have bricks.
As a last resort, you could always have some shipped to you, or maybe find some castable refractory locally and cast your own.
