Hacking sandwich toasters

Has anyone ever had a go at making custom plates for a sandwich toaster?

I was thinking of taking something like a WARING Waring Deep Fill Sandwich Maker, and then making new plates for it to do different things.

Something like a waffle cone maker to do chicken skin etc.

Crazy?
