Holiday Hauls

Get any good cookbooks/gadgets/appliances/whatnots for Chrismahanukwanzakah this year? I'm notoriously difficult to shop for, so I keep an Amazon wishlist at the request of my relatives. Pretty much everything on it is kitchen related, so I'll be beginning the new year with some new gear... namely:

Baratza Encore burr coffee grinder (at the recommendation of the ChefSteps coffee class)

All-Clad 3-Qt Saucepan (to replace the 50 year old, scorchy Revereware I'm currently using)

Crazy Korean Cooking fermentation crock (I'm looking to ferment a bunch of stuff in the near future, and this promises to not stink up the house.)

Sandor Katz's "The Art of Fermentation" (Of course!)

Francisco Migoya's "Elements of Dessert"

2 ounces of 5-year aged jamon iberico de bellota my parents smuggled back from Spain

I got myself (or "my household," as I like to rationalize it) an Aeropress and a Nespresso machine. I'm liking the Nespresso a lot more than I thought I would. It doesn't make the best espresso in the world, but it's better (and cheaper) than Starbucks. And the sucker's fast. Espresso on demand? This might get dangerous.

I got 3 killer knives. RyuSen Gyuto, RyuSen Santoku and the RyuSen Utility/Fruit Knife. In addition to that a thermapen, french cookbook and some interesting silicon molds. And I bought myself a boos cutting board.

I was supposed to get the English translation of 'Arzak Secrets' Christmas week, but apparently the shipment went missing. Amazon said it was scheduled for delivery 12/23, but FedEx tracking shows the package was never picked up after the label was created in Baltimore. So I canceled the order and got a refund, and will re-order when they have new inventory.

Got a nice new Cuisinart spice grinder, tho, so that's fun. Also got a doggie biscuit kit that comes with a bone-shaped pan; I think I'll use that for cornbread.

The Searzall is such a fun gift. Torch all the things! The thing I seem to use it for most is melting/toasting cheese. It's a monster at melting cheese.
