Induction Burner Recommendations
ashecorvin
Hi all - I need an induction burner for next weekend and would like some advice on what to get. I've been reading some reviews but it's hard to find the information I'm looking for.
I'll be using this burner next weekend to sear a lot of sous-vide steaks outdoors for a party (searing that many steaks in my apartment is not feasible). Based on Amazon reviews it seems most home burners have too small of a heating element that makes it hard to do that. Anyone have any experience with this type of thing? I can't find a chart with heating element sizes and it's hard to find manufacturer's specs as well.
Ideally I'd like something that's on Amazon and Prime eligible, but any recommendations will certainly help in my search and will be greatly appreciated! Also - <=$200 would be helpful.

There's a thread about this on the forum:

@Ashe
Corvin - I have a Fagor Digital Portable Induction Burner (1800 Watts). I paid $150 for it and am VERY pleased with it. I've used it extensively and can't really complain about its performance.

@Brendan
- I had seen that thread before but it seemed more geared towards ranges than individual burners, with just a post or two about the latter.
Keith - thanks for the endorsement. I was looking at that one along with a couple of others such as the Max Burton 6000 and Waring Pro ICT200.
I think I'm leaning towards the
Avantco IC1800
, as it has a little more granular temp/power control. Anyone have any experience with this?

If you go to the link that
@chris
provided in that thread there is a whole section dedicated to individual burners

I have a Max Burton and have been happy with it. I confess that I would prefer a rheostat to control the temps as opposed to the pre-set buttons.

Ashe, Did you wind up going with the Avantco? If so, curious how you like it.

Hi Melissa - Yes I did end up with the Avantco and it suited my original purpose beautifully. I don't use the burner too often but it does come in handy when I either need an extra burner or if I have something like a stock that needs to run for a few hours (less heat in the kitchen). I do love the rheostat control, and that you can control the temperature by (somewhat) arbitrary levels, or by temp. I haven't tested the temp accuracy with my surface thermometer, but maybe one of these days I'll try that! The unit is pretty large, but I like that it's stainless steel, and feels like it will last forever.
Overall I'm very happy with the purchase. Last time I used it was about 6 months ago to preheat large amounts of water for several water baths for a big dinner and it's still going strong!
