It's 329...that's the cheapest i've seen a new one go for. Is this something I should jump on? I have...a magic bullet and its driving me insane

For comparison...I believe the Waring Extreme is more powerful:

if you are willing to bend a bit more, I would lean toward this waring

I have a vitamix and it is good, but among my long list of equipment, I have this waring on my list. Now as for the magic bullet, I have one of those as well and it is obviously less than ideal, but for testing recipes, or for small servings it can do fairly well. Just make sure you use the ice blade for purees and such (only ~$5) You'll still have to push through a sieve for consistency but makes things easier. My .02

Costco just had the vitamix for 329$ as well. May have ended but the roadshow comes through often. If they are an option for you it's worth a peek...

FWIW, the waring beats the vitamix as well (I like mine but.......). The membrane buttons on the blentec would drive me a bit bonkers (not a fan of mmbrane switches).

Hey thanks for that! I didn't realize that was a thing at Costco! Maybe i'll hold back on this blendtec purchase

Oh ok...seems like people prefer waring over vitamix/blendtec. I always thought those were the go to at home blenders. Yeah I like the magic bullet for small servings and you don't need as much to get a vortex going-but i think you know my frustration with only having a magic bullet.

Would you happen to know why that particular one is more expensive? Is it because it is has variable speed? I was thinking about purchasing this one, it only has two speeds. I'm not sure what application i'll need where I really need to control the speed of the blender, unless I'm trying to not break an emulsion or something. Actually......that's probably a good reason why i shouldnt get the 2 speed one?

Whoa thanks! I didn't realize there were some warings less expensive than blendtecs and vitamix! I always thought they were more expensive in general. But i suppose...they have different models hahahaha.

definitely understand the frustration.

Exactly, there are some recipes where you won't want as much air (like working with beet juice and such) where you end up creating more work for yourself with the two speed blender (I have the vitamix version and kick myself for not getting the variable speed.......that was before I was told about the waring). So, if you can swing it, go with the 1200. If it's a squeeze, get the 2 speed or wait a bit until you can afford it.

I have the variable speed Waring and my parents have a variable speed Vitamix. In practice, I'd say they perform more or less exactly the same (though I've never had them side by side). The Blendtec is a nice unit, but I hate the interface. I want direct control, no preset programs, no standing there holding a button down to increase or decrease the speed. Two switches and a knob, please. The only thing the Vitamix has that I wish the Waring did is the tamper, but that's only really an issue when I'm blending something without enough liquid to get it flowing properly. But then I just take the lid off and carefully use a spatula to move things around... no big deal. In any event, I'd keep my eyes peeled for a good deal on a Waring or Vitamix, pull the trigger, and never look back.

In related news, I just found this tamper that seems to fit the Waring. Nice.

nice find!

Hmmm I think i'll wait to buy a variable blender. Buying the right thing once is probably the better option then! Thank you so much for taking the time!
tangma27
Ok I'll keep my eyes peeled for those two then! Thank you so much for the advice! Though I've used my friend's blendtec once-I didn't have to hold down a button when I used his, but I do like knobs better than the touch screen thing.

However, the nsf rating typically comes at the cost of a more limited warranty, correct? It does with kitchenaid. Not saying the beastly Waring will need a good warranty but it never hurts to have a good one, especially as an amateur home chef. (My case) Waring- 1yr. Vitamix- 7yr (iirc)
tshewman
I understand (though the waring has a 3 year motor, 2 year parts and labor warranty) I have a vitamix, so I understand. But if I were to buy today, I would buy a waring.
