Crossing the border with food.
Matt_66199
Has anyone tried crossing the US border from Canada with jars of flan? Unsure if they'll make me throw it out. Any help would be really appreciated.

Egg based items are not recommended. Raw eggs and even moon cakes are prohibited. If you really want to try just made sure you declare it at the border, the worst that would happen is they make you throw it out. If you don't declare it it could cost you jail time and a large fine.

You won't be jailed, but you can be fined a lot of money if you get caught. Your best odds like in disclosure and an appeal to their humanity. I'm a sales guy, and I find that candor is a pretty powerful weapon. But keep in mind that they're risking their jobs by doing so, which means you need to be damn good at being candid and open. And even if you are, there are no guarantees.

Matt, having brought and taken food to/from canada many times, you should be fine. Claim it as dinner or whatever and most won't blink an eye. In December for example, I took an entire Xmas dinner and extra ingredients (and circulator etc etc) for additional meal making and home made food gifts and they didn't even blink.

Thanks for the info everybody. I'll just declare it and hope for the best.

You shouldn't have a problem if you follow Todd's advice. Good luck and please let us know how it goes.
