Coffee Pot style timer?

So the big feature I personally have always wanted for a sous vide setup is a coffee pot style auto on. When I wake in the morning, a lot of times I want to cook sous vide, but a hour~ for the water to come to temp+another hour or two for the food to cook is too long to wait on breakfast. I want something to be able to start heating a hour or two in advance of me waking up, that way it is ready to go but hasn't wasted electricity/wear and tear by staying on all night.

What kind of immersion circulator do you have, or is this a question specifically for the Joule?

This would be a software feature. The Joule app will allow you to set cook times and temperatures, but it’s unclear if you’ll need to initiate it first (be awake) before the timer starts, or if you can set it the night before (would be easy to add this feature if it doesn’t currently have it). Once the timer has started, the app will take over and let you know when your water is hot and your food is done, even if you’re still counting sheep. Another feature could also be added which is found on many higher end projectors. This feature (an app setting) would allow you to choose if the power on/off button is controlled manually or by the Joule being plugged in. If it's the later then you could plug the Joule into a AC timer (the APC P4GC is one example) and be turned on that way. However, once it's turned on it would still need to be told what to do. Because of this the first option mentioned is the better of the two. The night before you could set a date and a start time, and what temp to reach, and if the setting is for one event or repeated. Very similar to how an alarm clock would work, only instead of hearing an annoying buzzing in your ears you'd wake to the sweet smell of Sous Vide.

It would help to understand what product you are thinking of preparing in this way. There are serious food safety issues to having food sitting there while you sleep waiting for the sous vide circulator to come on.

Yes, definitely something we've thought about. You could do this safely with an ice bath in a cooler as well (i.e., set up your bath before you leave from work, have your burgers ready by the time you get home). @Emmett_Barton_12803's got some cool stuff planned.

Hi there - this is actually a VERY significant feature/process that could do with being safely troubleshot. Since if we wanted to go beyond the 1Hr cooks in the week we need a means of exactly controlling when the product is cooked for. I'm a massive fan of the Pork steaks cut from the shoulder however they require 3 hrs from frozen.

The first thing I would do to alleviate some of your time problem is first precook your food. Prepare the food the night before. Hell do a big batch of it. Since your sous viding I can assume you have some type of vacuum food saver or something. Product won't go bad. Even if you sous vide in a ziploc bag there is a vacuum that is created with the water displacement and heat, so it won't spoil quickly on you. If you start there your only worry is the time it takes to heat the water bath and an additional 10-15 minutes of reheat. your food will taste as fresh as if you sous vide it that morning. I haven't tried the ice bath trick yet in a cooler, but I like the idea. Also there is a product called www.cookmellow.com that you could look into that might fit more of your lifestyle. Cheers.
