Any thoughts about this (and there are other options if you surf around a bit on the site)?

I have this blender and it works but essentially has no speed control. It's like my 7yo son, 150% or off/sleep. I also have a Thermomix (acquired a couple years ago) which gives me the control I need. I will have to replace my vitamix eventually I will with this

If you have the extra $20, go with the waring. More powerful, more control, less expensive for new. I probably wouldn't have known about it if it weren't for CS. My .02

I wrote to vitamix, and they said that there are a number of different names for the 5200 model, depending on who is selling it, but this is the 5200, which has variable speed control.

My experience is in line with Vitamix's statement. I bought a certified reconditioned unit for myself, and it does indeed have variable speed control. It came in basically new condition with all the accessories, and no discernible signs of wear.

It looks like in the reviews that they have problems with black specks of plastic
