Just got our copy earlier this week. The sucker weighs in at a whopping 54 lb. Too bad they didn't include a forklift with it! Yes, it's expensive -- roughly the same cost as a mid-level iPad, though it doesn't have a battery, never needs to be charged, and won't be obsolete any time soon. It's an amazing set of books, fascinating to the true bread geek. We've been pulling volumes out at random, and opening pages at random. The amount of information is dizzying, but written in clear, concise terms. The books are a pleasure to handle,, and the photography is, as expected, jaw-dropping. So far I've made one recipe for potato bread that was, frankly, underwhelming the day it was made, but magically far better the next day. I'm currently nursing a levain that will go towards the chocolate cherry sourdough bread I plan to make later this week. So far we're very pleased with this investment -- I expect to up my bread-making skills considerably as we work our way through this behemoth.

Trying to read it from cover to cover. There's so much I don't know about bread! Made one failure for now but at least it was a delicious failure. The failure was all my fault. I used the wrong type of flour. (For my defence it wasn't labelled clearly.)
