Sharpening Bread Knives?
Lachlan_Hunt_17368
I watched the videos on sharpening knives, and have recently obtained a whetstone to sharpen my own. I have a set of 3 Global knives, and I have been able to successfully sharpen my chef knife and universal knife. What is the most effective way to sharpen the bread knife, given that it's scalloped on one side?

In the past, I've had them professionally sharpened because, IIRC, you need to use progressively finer round files to sharpen these.
To be honest though, e
ver since my nice one was stolen I've only owned inexpensive ones and just replaced them when I've worn them down to bits.
If anyone finds a really great way to easily sharpen a serrated knife—like a bread knife—I would be interested in hearing about it.

@Chris
: Apparently you can sharpen them with the chefschoice, although I'm not sure how well they actually work.

When I have been desperate, I grind down only one side of the serrated knife on a coarse stone. This will yield a very sharp newish edge. Otherwise I agree with Chris, I never buy expensive serrated knives, in fact, I buy the cheapest ones.

I use the
Gatco Guided Sharpening System
to sharpen most of my knives.
They have
stones
available for sharpening serrated knives.
