Joule vs. ANOVA circulator

This question revolves around the projected release date of the Joule.

Currently I am using an ANOVA circulator as a second unit. It works fine, however the wifi app does not work. I am sure everyone has read the user reviews about the ANOVA with the wifi app being their major weak spot. I feel like I am doing their beta testing for them.

Is Chefsteps looking to their customers to beta test Joule for them? And as I frequently use two circulators and want to time the ANOVA return so I am not without two units, when will you release Joule?

Can't wait to return the ANOVA for Joule with a robust wifi app and connection.

Given the standard and level of excellence I associate with ChefSteps (and given the size of their team) I'd fully expect the Joule app to function more or less flawlessly from the get-go.

I do not have any input on the beta testing, however the other day they notified users of a release delay As @Brandon_Byrd_40557 indicated, ChefSteps is pretty top notch, whenever they do anything, so I would expect all the kinks to be worked out by the time the Joule is shipping. You may consider contacting them directly regarding any beta testing. Good luck!

FWIW, I tested Joule briefly on a visit to Seattle a few months back when it was still very much a prototype (pre the pre-release) and I was impressed with the profile, heating ability and responsiveness. The specs haven't changed so it's unlikely they will need beta-testers, but doesn't hurt to ask. I have an anova (as well as a PS) and I'll be selling my Anova when the Joule arrives. Wifi wasn't my personal issue with the Anova, the ability to hold a temp after product insertion was. JMHO.

I have read a lot about the Anova app issues. I understand why you feel like a beta tester, but ChefSteps/Joule is very much different. From the start ChefSteps has been doing extensive testing of everything that is related to Joule. They have put Joule (and the app) through its paces and looked for any weak spots, then fixed those weak spots and retested, etc. etc.. This process has been happening for a while. They do all of this extensive testing because they have always had ONE goal in mind, to make the best Sous Vide circulator on the market, bar none. They take this very seriously and they want - your - experience with the product, and Sous Vide, to be as positive and enjoyable as possible.

The “release date” question has been asked several times before and replies are listed below. Updates regarding a new release date will be posted in this forum from ChefSteps as soon as they have any updated information. You mentioned that you have two Sous Vide circulators, what is the second device? How have you liked it?

Todd, are you saying the temp would vary during cooking?

The temp would/does drop significantly when I put product in the Anova bath and takes a long time to come back up to temp. Now I have to set it about 3-5C above my target temp to avoid this and even then it often drops below.

The one thing that I didn't like about the Anova (besides their lower grade of stainless steel) was that they tend to skimp on heater wattage/design. When I saw how ChefSteps went the extra mile to design a proper Sous Vide heater I was sold. Really looking forward to cooking with the Joule.

I had a souvide supreme oven that got a slight splash of water on it and conked out permanently. I tried three suppliers for an anova one and got unsealed or damaged goods. I ordered Joule instead with much inconvenience and hope. I have no sous vide equipment beyond a vacmaster. I have food in the freezer waiting for my Joule to arrive but the delay is painful. I am having gourmet food withdrawals. Do they have a 12 step program for sous vide addicts? I need a sous vide fix. Help!

As most of CS followers, I too look forward to the day when I will have Joule in my kitchen ready to use. The app will only add to it's ease of use and versatility.

In reply to your question about the second circulator I use, it is a PS Chef. It has been a workhorse, never failing at any mark along the way. I start with hot tap water, use an insulating blanket I cut to fit both the sides and top of a Cambro # 12189CW (18 L) and a # 18269CW (49.2 L). In both cases I have notched the lid to fit the PS unit. As yet I have not experienced any loss of water nor a drop in temp, even over longer cooks. I have heard a few comments about it being to loud but I do not agree. It is louder than the ANOVA but it has a pump that can handle a greater volume of water. I highly recommend it.
