I love the design and intuition put forth on this, the second generation Juel. However, it's plastic. I'm concerned it will deteriorate (unless it's polypropylene ♻#5). Why was silicone not utilized & can it? Also, how many hours is this unit tested to last in its lifetime?

I've had my Polyscience circulator sitting in a water bath for the past four years and it hasn't dissolved yet. I don't know why you think plastic would be a problem or why silicone would be an improvement.

"Its strong, durable body is made of extruded polycarbonate, and the top and foot are 316L stainless steel." Polycarbonate is the same plastic that Lexan bullet proof plastic is made from. I would not be worried about strength or deteriorating.

See @Brandon Byrd and @John Fisher responses. I can second their opinions and like Brandon, I have a Polyscience as well (for about as long) and I use it ~6 days a week. If only other items at that price that undergo that much use would last that long. The specs of the Joule are very similar (Dare I say better, smaller and just as powerful) so hours would presumably be similar.

Polycarbonate is good. It can withstand temps exceeding 230°f. Silicone is better because it can withstand temps of over 400°f. The Juel goes to 209°f so it doesn't really matter I guess. I feel like silicone would surely last longer because it degrades at a higher temp. Thanks for the answers. Four years sounds great for the polysci. And the Juel twice as powerful (10 gal vs 5.5 for polysci)

I think Joule will be fine.

Silicon is too flexible. Adding it to another substrate would add manufacturing cost. Polycarbonate on the other hand is a thermoplastic (perfect for this application) and is virtually unbreakable and can withstand massive force. This is why it is used in the construction of bulletproof windows, police shields, aircraft products and medical supply components.

Delivery won't take long, it's the manufacturing process. Designing on paper, then parts, then production.....test and repeat til it's done. Add regulatory (often the longest part of the wait) and many devices are delayed in their launch.as for longevity, see above posts. Feel free to ask cs directly or the forum if there are questions.
