How smart is Joule, very smart. So you put that tough cut of meat in your sous vide bath to get it really tender, right. It's going to take some time, 24 hours, 48 hours or maybe even 72 hours. The next time you check on it, crap you had an electrical power interruption and the circulator is off and you have no idea when that happened. Well those days are going to be gone with Joule. Joule's app will tell you when you lost connection between it and the app. You will know when the power went out and how much time is left on your cook, and yes it will notify you even in the middle of the night using your notification settings on your Apple or Android device. For me this was important, I've had my power go out in the middle of a cook. Joule can save the day, or at least that meal.
I spent a while with Kevin Finke, of the Joule engineer team, and by the way one of the design team members for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The safe guards and engineering that has gone into Joule is phenomenal, the process has been a labor of love long before we ever heard of it. Kevin introduced me to a few members of the app team, Emmett Barton and Jiamin Zhu who addressed my concern of a power outage. Joule is going to be smart and help you cook the best food possible, more precise and more flavorful.
From what I saw and was able to experience first hand, the wait will most definitely be worth it. Joule's high quality and product support that ChefSteps is going to deliver is going to be epic.
