Stand mixers: Kitchenaid Heavy Duty 7qt vs Kenwood Titanium Major
Hajdamak_132675
Hi,
I am looking for a stand mixer. Contenders:
Kenwood Titanium Major
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Kenwood-KMM020-Major-Titanium-Stand/dp/B006WYVFES/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1462968698&sr=8-1&keywords=titanium+major
Kitchenaid Heavy Duty 7
https://www.amazon.co.uk/KitchenAid-Professional-Bowl-Lift-5KSM7591X-Metallic/dp/B0081EYDPK/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1462968524&sr=8-2&keywords=kitchenaid+heavy+duty+7
Any thoughts on these?
Kenwood seems to have stronger motor, all attachments are stainless steel and is cheaper.
Kitchenaid is heavier which is helpful for heavy dough.
Cheers,
Rafał

I'd look at the Commercial Kitchen Aid too. I think it is the same engine, they are sturdy as heck and you can find pretty sweet deals on them as it is professional NSF certified gear. I got mine for half the cost of a "professional" which I really think is a residential.

I believe Heavy Duty 7 is Europe's commercial Kitchenaid. For example restaurant supply store:
https://sklep.technica.pl/miksery/mikser-planetarny-6-9-l-inox-kitchen-aid-heavy-duty?from=listing&campaign-id=14
I am Europe based, therefore no sweet deals on Kitchenaid AFAIK, they are rather expensive here.
Kenwood on the other hand is priced competitive.
BTW What is your experience using Kitchenaid 7qt with smaller quantities of dough?
Johan_Edstrom_5586
Quite good actually. Even something as little as 2-3 eggs whip, I often do pasta doughs around 300g, since you lift and it kneads nicely against the bottom of the bowl it works just fine, I was worried about that too when I got it.

Do you have any experience with Kenwood?
AngelArs_240456
They're both good but I bought the KitchenAid. It's like a tank for your kitchen only sexier.
The Kenwood was actually a recent re-introduction for the US market (
it was sold by the company DeLonghi previously
) and parts would be more difficult to obtain.
The main reason I went with the KitchenAid is that the Kitchen Aid is slightly easier to clean.
Sometimes when I'm done waxing my car I wax my
*cough*
KitchenAid. I love it that much...
BTW, there really is no way to know which motor is
stronger
without testing them on the
same
bench side by side. Each company will "rate" their motor their own way. It's similar to how some companies rate (
if you want to call it that
) wattage for stereo equipment. You need to ignore what companies say "on paper" and test the equipment side by side to get any meaningful result. I'm sure the Kenwood is good but all I can tell you is that I could mix cement in my KitchenAid, if I were into that sort of thing

I was also looking at buying a Kitchen Aid Stand Up Mixer after being teased by all the yummy recipes here. Any opinion of the tilt head vs lift up?
AngelArs_240456
Once you've had your bowl lifted you'll never want to tilt it again.
Wait a minute, that didn't come out right...
The bowl-lift design provides sturdier bowl support for when mixing heavy ingredients or large batches. The lever smoothly raises the mixing bowl into position for a more efficient beater-to-bowl contact.

I love my Kitchen Aid, I am actually on my second. I've had both styles, tilt head and lift up....like the lift up best. I also have a Bosch that I use mainly for making bread, very powerful for kneading large batches of dough.
HammeredChef_DEFINITELY_does_NOT_work_at_22134
I agree, as much as I like to get tilted in the end being lifted up is the best..
Hajdamak_132675
Is there any kind of regulation how close attachment is to the bottom of the bowl?
Hajdamak_132675
You have 7qt?
Hajdamak_132675
Why separate machine for large batches. Isn't Kitchenaid enough?
Hajdamak_132675
You have 7qt? How does spiral dough hook handle small bread doughs. For example 500g.
fisher23
The Bosch will knead over 12 cups of flour without a problem and does s much better job of kneading. I use the Bosch for most of my yeast doughs.
Hajdamak_132675
What is your experience of using Kitchenaid for bread dough?
Do you have 7qt? How does is it handle small amounts of dough?
AngelArs_240456
Yes, the dough hook is great for making breads, coffee cakes, buns, pizza dough, etc.
