I'm not going to add to the fire about getting a set delivery date (I understand delays happen, although I do think CS underestimated what complications would arise) but I will say I don't need my mailbox bombarded with fantastic Joule recipes when you have no clue when the machine will ship. It's a kick in the teeth...

Tough balance to strike. There are a lot of customers that want more information and want to see more of the device and what it can do. I've ended up flagging about, what... 6 or 8 threads for @Ellen_212162 with folks wanting to know more, and wanting a regular cadence of news - even if that news is, "We don't know yet." So, there's that. This is really the first thread I've seen with, "We'd prefer to see less." Still... Flagged.

Personal note - I think you underestimate the obsession with detail they're driving at every level of the device... It's much more aircraft, much less toaster. Sometimes, when you're making the SR-71 of sous vide, delays creep in.

Because every country has nearly the same requirement as the FCC, by meeting those requirements it can be sold globally. Here is a quick reference of international requirements listed by country.

And I would also add that some regulatory obligations and requirements in the EU are way more demanding than what they're dealing with on the FCC front. They will have to get registered as a manufacturer of 'electronic waste' and have an agent in place in each EU territory that pays a fee for recycling e-waste, for example.

CS was publishing sous-vide recipes for four years before Joule was announced. There are alternatives to using an immersion circulator. Presuming this was prompted by the halibut salad recipe...... fill a cooler with hot tap water, bag the fish and dunk it into the bath, it will cook before the bath loses more than a degree or two. Same concept, but use a pot of water on your stove top.

We're all excited for Joule, and bummed that they've hit a speed bump. But you've got the tools you need to make many of these recipes in your house right now. Granted, it's not nearly as convenient or accurate as it would be with Joule. But those two methods I mentioned above served many of us well (myself included) before we ponied up for circulators. In fact, it was cooking those 'ghetto' ways (Dave Chang's word) that sold me on the utility of sous-vide at home. Allez cuisine! :-)

I happen to have several circulators and have used the methods you spoke about Matthew. I sure as hell don't want them to stop publishing recipes because the circulator they are using/testing happens to be a Joule...

Practically you don’t go anywhere with a product without having a FCC first if you want to export from the US. The process to receive EC certificate to sell within the EU countries can take long in the bureaucratic process. TTIP, industrial code & standard harmonizing is far from coming anytime soon if ever. The power set up need to be adjusted by country, what would add to the development and production time before you even can submit for CE. Not even speaking on the different power plugs within the EU countries.

Joule needs to make its way on the US market first before considering export.

I will buy mine in the US, have it shipped and use a voltage converter on the loading dock for the time being. They go from $ 10,00 to $ 50,00 and I’m all set.

And yes, I rather wait for some more months than have a half backed cake, knowing I never will get a half backed cake for the CS team.

Nobody suggested to have less content. If you purchase a Joule you become a premium member and receive emails with great looking recipes that say "Crank up that Joule and get going". This leads folks to the forum (spending time) to see if there is an update on release date, but there isn't.

I like seeing Joule in all the recipes. I'm already waiting patiently.. but the email is like a kick in the teeth.

I didn't mean it literally, there are always alternatives. I'd like to make a lot of the other recipes that are more time consuming and not babysit the process, which is one of the benefits.

This!! 1000 times. I'm not even using CS as much now that every recipe is sous vide based and here I sit awaiting Joule.

They have always been heavily sous vide based. While they are enamored with their own product that have used several different ones over the years: polyscience, anova, sous vide supreme, etc. There are a few videos in their collection that show you how to perform sous vide without an immersion circulator. You could also consider unsubscribing if it's that much of a nuisance.

I agree with @brian_100903.

CS has always been heavily sous vide based. I was actually about to comment in another thread that I thought that they had done a good job of mixing content lately, with less emphasis on sous vide. Again, I understand the want for a Joule. I really do. But try some of the other techniques in the meanwhile. I got great results for six months with a small cooler, an electric kettle, and a digital thermometer. We'll get through this.
