Use of multiple Joules concurrently
Kurt_Oehlberg_256931
Hi,
Will the Joule app allow me to use two Joules concurrently?
Thanks,
Kurt

That is a very good question that honestly had not occurred to me. Derp.

There was an old post six months ago where Emmett said that controlling multiple joules was a feature they intended to have. but it would probably be implemented in a software update somewhere down the road

To clarify - there is UI in the app for multiple Joules. From what I have seen, at launch, you would be able to control multiple Joules, but it may be in an unpolished state - IE, there may be a manual unpair, repair. Emmett did mention that the final state might not (or probably won't) be available at launch, though.
Controlling a wall of Joules and building in HACCP is just my personal obsession. Ignore that.

Hi Kurt! Apologies for our belated response! We do not plan to include the ability to control multiple Joules from one mobile device upon shipping. That said, we do intend to have that feature in the near future.

Hi Ellen,
I need advice based on your last response. I have preordered 2 joules. We have multiple Android devices (phones and tablets) as well as multiple windows 10 laptops. How will we be able to control both joules simultaneously? Our rationale for 2 devices was one for proteins and one for veggies or a side dish. Did we waste our money on preordering 2 or is there a workaround to control both. How long after launch (whenever that is now...) does chefsteps plan to add multiple joules control? Lastly, is there even a new proposed month for hopeful launch? My wife keeps hounding me to cancel the preorders as she feels the.devices will never arrive and the money is wasted. It gets harder to defend the preorders when there is no information other than "eventually" or "when it's ready" and now "no...you can't control multiple joules at launch". Please...send some good news. It has been a little light on positives here lately.

There are a number of workarounds. Unpair from one, pair to another. One tablet controls one device, another controls the other. There seem to be a couple of other workarounds. Again, multiple Joules->one app works in testing. It will not be available at launch. I am speculating grossly when I say it might be part of the SDK.
If it will calm your wife, a bunch of us have handled them, and a) they are best in class and b) they will ship. The CS folks are being stand up people and resolving some manufacturing issues. The certs are part of that. That's it.
Lastly.... ztshphwe@abyssmail.com is a throwaway email address to send me your details for shipping the VacMaster oil.

Max,
I was doing inventory and discovered we had ordered 2 quarts of oil, rather than one. As such, I estimate we have between 16 and 21 oil changes. If we change oil every quarter, that is still 4 to 5 years. I apologize, but I think we actually may have enough. Sorry. I thought we only had 1 quart.

Hi Richard, I just saw your comment. You did good on purchasing two Joules. I have a beta copy of the app and used the app at ChefSteps, as you have multiple Android devices each of those devices can pair an individual Joule to your separate Android devices. One device will contol one Joule, you other device will contol your other Joule. When you get into the setup you will see your Joule or multiple Joules and you will select which one you want that device to pair with. It is really easy you will click on an icon, each of the Joules will be listed separately. They have plans to allow the app to control multiple Joules from one device, that is expected in a future release of the app. Additionally, they are looking at building a program or website that would work on you Win 10 laptops.

Hi
@Richard_Rupp_336589
! As
@John_Fisher_218893
stated below, you are all set! As long as you have one device per Joule in order to operate them simultaneously. Regarding your very valid "Is this thing ever going to happen?" question, the answer is yes. There has been strong demand for Joule and overwhelmingly positive feedback from those who have had a chance to cook with the device. We’re committed to resolving the issues that caused the delay and shipping Joule as soon as possible and we will provide a new ship date ASAP.

Thank you for the reply. I had assumed there had to be a solution...hence the reason we preordered two. Thank is for the reassurance.

Hi Ellen,
Thanks for the response. This feature is really a big selling point for me to purchase an additional Joule. So, I appreciate the clarity.
Please continue to provide amazing content. ChefSteps is a perfect blend of science, technology, personality (individuals), and stunning visual appeal all wrapped up with a passion for cooking thoughtfully and through an environmental conscience lens.

Would like to add my voice (i.e. +1) to the interest in this feature. I'd like to be able to control more than one joule when preparing a meal and I think this is a pretty strong real world use case for many of us. Given that the discussion here is four months old, have there been any updates on the app side on whether this is likely to be available soonish?
John_Christ_329604
+1 on needing the feature. It is preventing me from ordering.

Hi Ellen,
Any update on when this feature may be implemented? I have two Joules and only one phone
.
Thanks,
Kurt

Yeah, I also need the ability to contol 2 at once. How else will I cook both turket legs and breasts concurrently for the ultimate holiday meal? Fortunately I have a spare iOS device, but since alexa can control joules, I figure that there may be an API out there to allow something like a joule webapp to control them once they are connected to wifi?
johnbonds
+1 on this. I have 2 joules and I'd like to be able to control both (or more) with 1 device.
Roy_Leban_129497
The ChefSteps folks know my opinion on this, but thought I'd add my voice here as well. I now have 2 joules (actually, I've had 2 for a while, but I just opened and started using the 2nd one). I have a spare iPod Touch I'm using for the 2nd one, but it is less convenient than if both could work from my phone. And also if they could could both work from my wife's phone too.
BTW, tip for others. I've removed the clip from one of mine because it gets in the way in one of my tubs. I left the clip on the other one and that is how I currently tell them apart. I will probably find a better system at some point. Maybe ChefSteps needs to make color models?

+1 on controlling multiple joules with one iOS device

+1 on controlling multiple joules with a single device. Super necessary right now.

I have used both my Joules at the same time more than expected — six times so far. Looking forward to this.
