Can you use it "old school" ?

Your demo vid shows the Joule being setup via an iPhone. Can you use it in a conventional dial and button mode? How powerful is it? I use a circulator ( lab kind ) in a 10 gallon tub. It's really to big for most meals but it heats up FAST!. How much water will Joule handle and how long to temp?

See @brian response. FWIW, when I first saw it in action months ago, it heated up much quicker than my anova and didn't drop allot in temp when inserting a product. You could actually cook in a large coffee cup (I did in a small stainless bowl), all the way up to a large cooler (like done at the recent visit).

You will need a device that you can load the iOS or Android app on, however they are looking at developing a web based app as well.

OK..you have to have a phone..but how about another device? What is the connectivity..is it Bluetooth or WiFi.? If it is one of those why not connect via laptop?

And may I ask..just who the hell are you to sharp shoot my questions and tell me where to go? I may choose to use the option of asking a question as opposed to looking around the site for the answer..that's the point of this thread and board and I'm sure OK with the ChefSteps folks. But let me ask..who are you to express exasperation with me and to direct me? Just leave my posts alone. No one other than YOU has taken YOUR approach.

Phone or tablet or any other devise that is capable to use the app (has the proper operating system iOS (Apple) or Android). It operates via Bluetooth and WiFi and will switch back and forth seamlessly to whichever has the best signal. They are looking at making a web controller that would connect via your laptop, but the current priority is to get the product to market with the iOS and Android app. I am a beta tester of the app and have been given the opportunity to use Joule at ChefSteps in Seattle. After you see how the app integrate and offers visual references for doneness of your food, I think you will be impressed, I know I was.

1. Joule does not have any manual controls and may only be operated via phone or tablet using our app.

2. All of our specs on heating power etc. are right here for you to check out if you'd like!

3. Even though Joule is the smallest consumer sous vide device available, it is more powerful than any competitor devices. However, the amount of water Joule can heat depends on the container you’re using and whether it’s covered. In an uninsulated, covered vessel such as a kitchen pot, Joule can heat up to 20 liters. In a well-insulated, covered vessel such as a cooler, Joule can heat up to 40 liters. If the vessel is uncovered, the precise volume of water Joule can heat will depend on the desired temperature.
