Canceled my Joule pre-order, here's why.

I just cancelled my Joule pre-order. It breaks my heart because I was looking forward to using Joule, but I cannot justify keeping this pre-order without even an inkling of when it will ship. I was a Chef Steps super fan and shared their videos with friends and family. But I can't justify waiting forever for a product when I have no idea if it will be 6 months, a year, two years, or what.

Either they don't know when it will ship or they aren't being transparent with their pre-order customers -- and either situation is unacceptable for me. It's now been a month since they delayed with no news whatsoever.

When Joule comes out, if they price match for my pre-order price I may consider buying it again. But until then, I'll use my pre-order money to get an Anova now.

I'm sorry to hear that, especially when I have strong indications that they've reached a major milestone. Have you sent a mail to @Ellen_212162 to talk about it?

I sent my cancellation email to Ellen. She approved the cancellation without mentioning such a milestone. More news or information might have kept me on as a customer but I did not receive anything to try and convince me otherwise so I have to assume that no update is forthcoming anytime soon.

That is sad, but understandable. We all have different needs and risk tolerances. I hope you have good luck with your Anova, mine has been somewhat problematic with long higher temp cooks and then it just quit circulating one day, but they did replace it. I believe they are $30 off if you buy today or tomorrow, the email they sent me said offer expires June 19. I really hope that after you get into sous vide that you will find yourself in need of a second one and that Joule will be available and that you will consider one.

Do you have the newer style Anova? My Anova One cuts out on long cooks too. It's due to steam getting inside the control head, or so it appears.

On topic: I feel the lack of transparency is what is frustrating most folks. Not the actual wait time. Maybe a "what's up with joule" page where someone could just drop a few lines about the progress, or lack of, made in the last week.

Yes, I have a newer Bluetooth only model. It also cuts out for the same reason. This time my circulator just quit in the middle of a cook. It still heated, but then it went into alarm mode and totally shut off. From what I read in the blogs the WiFi model is even more problematic.

Yes, I too would like to know where they are, and what issues have been resolved and what they are still working on.

I have two Ones right now, but I've never had them cut out on me. This steam thing.... is it coming up through the casing, or is steam coming up off the water around the outside? I want to know if there's a way to bodge around it, because I just bought some Iberico pork cheeks and I want to do a 72-hour cook. I'd hate for the stupid circulator to shut down while I'm at work.

Up around the outside. Using plastic wrap or foam or even a towel wrapped around really helps....it took me a while to find out about it and how to avoid it. Lots of forums and blogs.
