While I am glad that there is now a date certain (at least until there isn't), I think that part of the unhappiness many of us feel is that the ChefSteps Joule marketing machine went into overdrive long before it really had any right to do so. You jumped the gun on an expected delivery date before development had passed a critical milestone, and the site became all about "look at all of the amazing things you will be able to do with your Joule" before anyone was even close to having one. You managed to get a lot of people excited about the possibilities of sous vide. People then gave you money, and chose to forgo purchasing alternatives already available in the market, because they thought they would soon have in their kitchens the one home use immersion circulator to rule them all.

And while no one, I think, is actually ascribing bad motives to anyone involved, when you take money in January for a product that is supposed to be delivered in May, and then tell us in June that the product will not be delivered until September, it begins to smack of vaporware. When people go on Kickstarter or Indiegogo, they at least have a better idea of the "in development" nature of the product and the uncertainties of when the product will be available. To me, at least, that was not as clear at all from the way the Joule was originally presented in the marketing materials.

I already had two Anovas before I placed my order for Joule, so I did not put off making any purchases, but it is clear from the comments that there are plenty who did. Even now, I think that the ChefSteps Joule team needs to take good hard look at the marketing materials on your website, and the expectations you are creating. The site now says "Shipping September 2016." Assuming that people have been continuing to pre-order Joule since you first allowed pre-ordering, you now have a 6 month backlog of orders. Is someone who orders today actually going to have their Joule shipped in September? If commercial production has not yet even begun, are you really sure that you are going to be able to crank out Joules in sufficient volume by September to fulfill all existing orders plus the new orders that you keep receiving. If not, maybe you should be saying "First pre-orders ship in September" or something of the like. Again, you are not doing yourselves any favors by possibly creating even more customers who will not have their delivery expectations fulfilled.

Thank you for the update! I fully appreciate the need to ship it right, as opposed to ship it now. I'll miss exploring summer sous vide + grill experimenting, but I hope to get many years of cooking out of this gadget. Looking forward to it!

We can agree that Chefsteps may have been too eager with their marketing but there are are a few people that are giving them too much flack. They sent an email in late April telling us that they will not be able to deliver on their estimated date and in that email they offered a refund to anyone that wants one (no questions asked). These few people that seem to be under the impression that this is like a Kickstarter and they are investors. This is not true. This is no pay $300 and we'll send you a signed joule or pay $1000 and we'll add you to the credits page in your Joule app! Kickstarter holds onto our money until the project is complete or fails. Chefsteps offers it back anytime. Chefsteps has a sole outside investor and its freaking billionaire Gaben Newell. They are morally obligated to give him updates, not us. As long as Chefsteps offers us our money back, there was and still are no reason to be upset that they are holding our money. Cancel the order and return when the product actually ships or don't return. It just seems foolish to expect Chefsteps to send an annoying update every week saying "yup still waiting on the government/paperworks". THAT would annoy me and make me lose confident in them. But even then, I wouldn't feel entitled enough to think myself as an investor. I would just ask for my money back. I owe them nothing and they owe me nothing.

sorry to say that but I'm disappointed about the delays, I bought this in January with the original delivery date in May. I know it's a new product and a bunch of things can go wrong during the process but the only thing I really miss its a proper treatment for those who believed in the idea.... anyways let wait until september and hope to not have ant new surprises
