This question has been asked in the past, however, it has never been answered. I suspect in or near Seattle, because they have posted engineering and industrial design jobs on their jobs page, and glassdoor, and others, and the location is always Seattle. If it is not Seattle, I suspect it is somewhere nearby.

Joule was entirely designed and engineered by the team at ChefSteps (mostly) in Seattle. But the actual device is manufactured in China under our supervision.

Some folks might ask why China? At one point we did take a serious look at doing it in the United States. But there were two reasons to not do this: (1) To be cost-effective, we would have had to automate the entire assembly process. After talking to people who *really* know how to do to this, we estimated the cost to be at least $50M and two additional years of engineering work. (2) The critical parts would still need to come from China because that's where the business that make these parts are located.

Joule requires coordinating the fabrication, testing, and assembly of dozens of custom parts. A non-exhaustive look at our supply chain would include businesses that are very skilled at producing extruded plastic housing, injection molded plastic parts, injection molded stainless steel parts, thick film heaters, brushless motors, custom silicone seals, neodynium magnets, bluetooth modules, wifi modules, transformers, and on and on. These are components that we've lost the ability to competitively manufacture in the United States. The best manufacturers in the world for our components are now in China, and so we went to China.
