I'm wondering if anyone has experience with vacuum filtering food related liquids, like juices and stocks. I recently bought a büchner funnel, paper filters and equipment to apply vacuum to the funnel.
I've tried filtering some fresh juice, that was pre-filtered through a 100µm bag and it seemed like it would immediately clog up the paper filter, only filtering a few centiliters. Seeing this I cut out a piece of fine cloth and could filter about 400ml before it was completely clogged. The juice was rhubarb and I hadn't treated it with any pectinase.
From some reading it seems the filtering can be improved using diatomaceous earth to catch the particles, but does anyone have any experience using this or other ideas on how to use my büchner funnel more efficiently.
