Launch Date for App?

Wondering if there are forthcoming details about the Android/iPhone application availability. Will it be released when the units start shipping? Or will there be any preview? How about the current ChefSteps app, will that be changed in anyway; or is Joule it's own unrelated app?

It is a separate app, and there is a working beta on Android and iPhone now. They just shipped a bunch of units for the beta test. Mine should arrive tomorrow. I have both installed on my Samsung Galaxy S7.

Not sure about changes to the app. I will let you know more as I get a chance to play around.

Again, not CS staff, but somehow lucked out and got into the beta.

The Joule app is still in beta, but I can tell you it is awesome. I've been beta testing it since May. The latest version was released yesterday to beta testers. It is very intuitive and great for beginners or seasoned sous vide users. I would expect that they will do a public release in late August, that is my best guess and I am only guessing.

Hoe does the app manage phones always wanting to turn their screen off (which, if you have a lock, also locks them) while cooking? Being locked out is my #1 frustration using a device to follow a recipe, and since Joule only has the app for control, this could make it break the whole thing.

Out of curiosity, how were beta testers for app and hardware picked?

For the record, the app is not the only way to control Joule. It also has a button on top and a multi-color LED so you know what mode it's in. As time goes on this combination button/LED will learn new exciting functions.

Does one need a Joule to use the app? As in does the app prevent you from browsing until you've paired it with your Joule?

Nope. You can use the app without a Joule. There is a "Training" mode.
