Controlling multiple Joule
skip_308402
Is it possible to control multiple Joules concurrently from the same phone app and premium account, each cooking a different item at differing temperatures? Or would that require a separate phone, app, and premium account per Joule?

I understand the answer is No, but you could run another Joule on an iPad for example.

Are there any plans for future software updates to be able to do this? I routinely run 2 (sometimes 3) SV at once. I would consider ordering another Joule, but if I can only run one at a time, it's not much use. Hopefully this is just a software issue that can be updated at some point.

Indeed, the reason I'm asking is because I want to buy a second Joule. We have a total of four Android devices (2 phones, 2 tablets, no iOS devices), so we should be able to run four copies of the app, which is double the number of Joules we believe we'll want to use concurrently.
My understanding is that you also have to be signed in to a Chef Steps premium account to operate the Joule. Is that a separate premium account per concurrently active Joule, or can I log into the same premium account from each Android device running the app?

Ok, I have my answer. I see that Ellen updated the FAQ three hours ago to answer this question. The FAQ question is "Can I control more than one Joule with one smartphone?". And the answer is:
"We are working on that capability, but it is not yet available. We’ve built the Joule app from the ground up with this in mind. Users can look forward to an app update enabling control of as many circulators as they care to own. However, this feature will not be available at launch. "
Before I found this new FAQ article, I went ahead and ordered another Joule anyway. Why not? I've got multiple devices I can use to control multiple Joules, so for me, no problem.
BTW, Eduardo = Skip. I'm responding now from my husband's account, whereas earlier I was logged in as me.

I am a beta tester and really the answer to your question is yes you can now. All you need to do is unpair it, Joule will keep running the program. Then pair it to the other one and start your program. Then you can switch back and forth by pairing and un pairing. It is very, very easy to pair and unpair. It will be much simpler when they add that feature to the app but you can do it now!
I don't have any idea about the requirement of a premium account. You do need to sign into your account but we will have to ask
@Ellen_212162
if a premium account is a requirement.
Another really neat feature is that if you do have multiple devices and they are paired to the same Joule you can seamlessly pick up either device and monitor your current cook. You do nothing the App does it all. Really cool.

yes, that is planned for a future release of the app to be able to contol multiple Joules from the same device. It can be done now by unpairing and the then pairing with the other Joule..... Pairing and unpairing is very easy and quick.

Thanks John. Re-pairing is a workable option for now, if somewhat less convenient than having it seamlessly built-in to the app.

I too ordered a second Joule so I can sous vide with wild abandon and with ease. After I bought it, I got to thinking the same thing....how do you run two with one app? And, as expected, there is a solution on a temporary basis (thanks John!...you da man!) and one in the works for a permanent fix. And now all there is to do is wait for September!

No problem Byrdie. I hope getting a lot of use out of your new kitchen...Hey pics would be nice. I am in the process of expanding my island, new counter tops and sink. Can't wait to have it all done!

Yeah, sure, I can post some pics of the renovated kitchen. Good luck with your new digs too! I'm glad it's you and not me because I've had my fill of construction for a while! And please, don't forget to post some pics as well. Pics to follow in the next day or so.

Oh thank God you posted this! I was about to do a dinner for my boss this weekend and realized I needed a second Joule to prepare two separate dishes. You saved my life!

Make sure you disconnect wifi too when you unpair, or the one you leave connected to will change the time and temp or just get confused. I would just run them both via Bluetooth. The other option is to have a second ChefSteps account and sign in to one account pair it with one Joule. Sign out then sign in with the other account and pair it with the second Joule. Then you'll be able to use two Joules with one device, just on different accounts in the same Joule app. It is probably easiest to have two accounts and sign in anf and out of accounts.
If you do have two devices you will still need two ChefSteps accounts and sign onto the Joule app with a different account on each device.

Why would you need multiple Joules? I'm just wondering really. Seems like it's capable of cooking more than one item at a time. I'm interested to know. Thanks!
