Joule Water Bath Container + LID

Hello,

I am awaiting my pre-order and have found some good containers such as LIPAVI or Rubbermaid.

I have noticed these companies have lids that are custom made for certain sous vide wands. As we get closer to release date it is clear that Joule is not support for their custom LIDS, which means I will have to buy one and seal it up my self.

I am a bit surprised that Joule does not offer the following: Water Bath Container, Fitted LID and clips and finger racks. That package would be really good to offer to your user base and would also bring in additional revenue.

Could you consider a plan to offer these accessories? I can get most on Amazon but the LID will be a challenge.

It would probably be smart to link up with LIPAVI and have some pre-picked out accessories that compliment Joule.

Hi Jonny, the C10L-NO Lid for LIPAVI C10 Sous Vide Container, with cut-out for the Nomiku immersion circulator fits perfectly.

I have a pork belly in cooking now with a beta Joule.

Here's another idea, Jonny. If you have access to a band saw, you can save some money by buying the plain C10L lid and cut your own custom opening. A band saw will cut polycarbonate plastic cleanly, and with ease.

I like both options below. I too am thinking about how to make a clean/cheap option. So far I plan on cutting a 2 inch hole in a large polycarbonate 18L cambro lid as well as the red 6/8L plastic cambro lid. I'll post pics once this is done, unless someone comes up with a better option.

A cheap oscillating tool (sub $20) will easily do the job.

Thanks for the suggestions and I knew I could of cut it myself. I am so busy that it is hard to find time for projects such as cutting a new lid. I love projects but just do not have the time.

John Fisher, thanks for your post it is what I was looking for. I still think it would be a good source of revenue for ChefSteps to make the accessories but happy to purchase from LIPAVI.

I have yet to try Souse Vide and figured I will crack my self open with the Joule. Waiting impatiently

John, is there a temp degrade from the gaps on the LID you are using? My initial thinking would that the cracks/spacing would need to be plugged\filled with a foam like material to maintain temperature.

The opening looks great on the LID for Joule but wanted to ask you about how its maintaining the temperature. Have you tested the water, is the temp spot on? Or the the gaps causing the Joule to fight the temperature from cooler to set temp?

Thanks, I am looking at a larger LIPAVI to make 5+ steaks and I read that I should avoid openings in the lid especially when using a larger bath.

There is no degradation at all. Even for a long cook, there is a slight water evaporation without sealing the container with plastic wrap. Joule maintained an accuracy of .00°-.01°F, verified with a Certified Thermoworks ThermaQ Thermocouple over numerous cooks including temps up to 194°F.

You could use the clip, but I have glued a magnetic stainless steel disk in the bottom of my LIPAVI. This was an idea that @HammeredChef_DEFINITELY_does_NOT_work_at_22134 and myself thought up when we were at ChefSteps for a Joule event. It works great with Joule's magnetic foot.

Although I should mention that Joule is foot heavy so if may not be needed if you use a lid. BTW, we named it "The Hammered -Fish" because it keeps your Joule from swimming away, lol!

As for lids I just ordered a roll of "closed cell" 3/8" thick foam. I have done this before but, am looking for something better that holds no moisture. The idea is that you can cut it (with scissors) to what ever size container you have (think round pots that have metal lids you can't cut) It simply floats on the surface and the hole for the Joule is cut so that is a push fit to get the Joule through... I actually got enough to cover the bottom and outside of my large cambro. Good news it is comes in colors, I chose white... will report back as soon as it arrives.
