Foster, what has been your overall experience with the Joule app? Any issues you've come across such as responsiveness delays, glitches, etc.? It looks pretty intuitive from seeing the video demos, which is nice. Anyways, I just wanted to get your overall thoughts. Thanks!

Hi Quinn, you didn't ask me so I hope you don't mind me giving my answer to your question. Yes, I am a beta app tester and a beta Joule tester. Actually, with the current version the app is very responsive. I am running it on an iPhone and on an iPad. There were a couple of issues with the WiFi sensitivity but those have been resolved with firmware updates. The app is very intuitive, my 9 year old grandson figures it out in seconds a cooked a steak. Pairing is simple with your bluetooth device and with WiFi. If you have multiple Joule's un-paring and re-paring is just as easy. Updating firmware is also very intuitive and simple. I have cooked almost everything that is on the app and it has came out perfect, with the exception of some carrots that were slightly under cooked. But again that issue was resolved with a firmware update. Initially, the temperature tolerances were not as tight as they are now. I just completed a 48 hour cook and Joule was within .03 and .01 the entire cook and for the most part was right on as compared to certified thermocouple. So to answer your question, any issues that have been found have been resolved quickly by the development team either by firmware updates or app updates.

Hey Quinn just a note..when you flag you need to wait for the CS forum program to catch up to you.... Tood and Max won't see your flags on our original message. When you press the at symbol you have a wait a few seconds for it to recognize the command. These they will see

and
@Max_Foster_18996
, they turn blue when they are actually flagged.

Hi John, sorry I forgot to include you, but I appreciate your response! I was concerned since it's a brand new app, but I was hoping they'd work out any bugs with the updates. Thanks for confirming that. This is great to hear. I originally was looking at the Nomiku and more recently the Anova, but when the CS team made the announcement to drop the price earlier this week, I figured it was the right time to get one. The price and all of the great informative reviews from the beta testers like you is what did it for me. Thanks again for your help!

Hi Quinn, I've tested it as much as I humanly can. It's actually taken me away from my personal goals (in other words, I've always had to figure things out and then do it, their recipes walk people through). Responsiveness - This depends a little on phone memory and other stuff going on in the background. It can never open fast enough for me, BUT it opens in 5-10sec at the longest....I'm a bit impatient. :-). Glitches? Initially, some of he step by step videos that exist inside the recipes would crash I emailed the errors and they were swiftly corrected. The videos are really cool.....although I rarely use them, I still look at them. for the uber-beginner, they rock! Intuitive? Once you know how to turn the unit on (anyone know how to press a little red button? :-)...), it's one of the most intuitive pieces of software I've used in any industry (in my defense, I want to hire these guys for the company's EMG software ;-).). As a quick comparison, I had the anova app, and it was so bad out of the gate (only my opinion) I deleted it within a couple weeks and haven't tried it since. It's probably beter now, but I would respectfully submit, not likely at the level of the Joule app. Hope that helps.

Trust me I have an Anova, Joule is hands down a better product. I am on my second Anova do to a motor failure. The Anova takes forever to heat water...over 45 minutes to get it 176 F and Joule takes about 10 minutes or less. From 76 F to 194 F Joule took 12 minutes flat.

Anova gave up on the non-WIFI circulator app as soon as their WIFI-enabled one came out, so it's exactly as terrible as it was

Anova, absolutely the worst AND most
unreliable
app out there......

Sorry for the delay... Running a bit behind on digital life right now.
I love the Joule app. I've been pretty mean to it, and I have a habit of breaking things, and it still manages to come out on top. For instance, I started a firmware update over the air from the ferry, mangled it over and over due to bad connectivity, user error, and outright cussedness, and Joule still managed to overcome me and apply the update. Then I started a meal.
From time to time I see responsiveness issues, but honestly, I see those same issues in mainstream apps on Android - Google Music, Google Maps, etc. I guess the easiest way to sum it up is that I look forward to interacting with the app.
With the new 'Grilling' section that they just added, you can really see them starting to integrate the recipe library, and I have no doubt that the app will continue to grow and get better as more users get to use it. The ChefSteps beta team has been amazingly responsive, and the only reason I don't tag them all individually is because every single person I've interacted with has been stellar - bugs get fixed, fast; features get added; stability and responsiveness have increased.
I expect awesome things as the Joule community matures.

That's good to hear, especially regarding firmware updates. That's the most nerve-wracking part of all these connected devices—you screw up a firmware update and now you can't connect to it and you're basically screwed (*cough*Phillips Hue lights*cough*)

Hey
@John
Fisher
, just a separate topic here. I noticed on your bio that you attended cooking school in Thailand. I've been meaning to get into Thai cookery and what really got me interested besides the fact that it tastes so delicious, is because I live nearby a farmer's market that happens to sell quite a few Thai ingredients (e.g., Apple Eggplant, lemongrass, Thai basil, Thai pea eggplants, Thai chilies, etc.). Just a few years back, these ingredients were so hard to find, and it's only recently that they've become so readily available that I wanted to make the most of it. Would you mind if I asked a few questions? If you can, it would be really appreciated. I did some reading of Thai Food by David Thompson, and I'm just trying to learn as much as I can. Thanks.
