Coolers ???
Bill_Martin_17506
Iʻm thinking of getting a 9 Qt. Polypropylene Cooler to use as a water container. The one at Wally World has a flat top, which would allow me to cut a hole for the Joule, <

Long cooks would be more energy efficient.
Melting point is around 233F which is well above the temps joule can produce, (in Water!!!)
Is there ANY reason NOT to use this?

My only concern would be how small it is, but if you're not planning on cooking large items, then you should be good to go with it.

What Brian said. It looks fine, but that's a very small container and I think of coolers as being ideal for larger cooks (because they help keep a large volume of water at temperature for extended periods). There's not much (any?) advantage to using them for smaller cooks if you already have a large stock pot, dutch oven, or Cambro.

It will work, but I am with Brian and Brandon why such a small one? For your regular cooking container you can use a pot or really anything. I am a beta tester and trust me you don't need an insulated container for such a small volume of water. Joule is very, very efficient and can maintain temperature without a lid or cover. If you want something larger 3-5 gallons, I recommend a LIPAVI or cambro, both are polycarbonate. The LIPAVI even has a cut out lid that fits Joule perfectly, the lid is made for the Nomiku but Joule fits great. Here is the beta Joule I have been testing in a LIPAVI container. If you were talking 10 gallons, then I would recommend an insulated cooler. I have done cooks in this container at 194 °F with no problem. I do recommend a lid to limit evaporation at higher temperatures but plastic wrap will work fine.

One of the things that I love most about Joule is specifically that you can use it with much smaller volumes of water than previous devices. So I'm kind of with the OP on the smaller container thing. There are certainly benefits to those 4+gallon Cambros, but for everyday cooking they're quite cumbersome and take up a ton of counter space. Using a Dutch oven or stock pot means you can't use them for anything else while Joule-ing away. I'd rather have a dedicated vessel, altho I can understand the desire to position Joule as a device that works with common everyday cooking vessels. (The clothespins are a nice touch, btw.)
Plus, water consumption is kind of a big deal here in CA. So put me down for a small beach cooler, too.

I do, also, own a SVS. So large items go into that. I think I will hold off on getting that cooler. Iʻm getting ahead of myself, a bit. Preordered last November, so anxiously awaiting shipment. I DO so hope we arenʻt facing another delay!!! We are in the last few days of August, and we were told there would be an email in August detailing shipping dates, refunds and making sure shipping addresses were still the same. Responses from Ellen have been brief and the comment that " sadly" she canʻt give any other information. The word "sadly" struck me as a portent.

+1 for less water consumption and freeing up existing pots. 4.75 gallons really is overkill for just 1 or 2 items. Using an insulated container like this is also great for doing delayed ice bath cooks. You don't need as much ice to keep the water below 40 F for hours. I have a similarly sized cooler for my Anova and it works perfectly fine for everyday cooks.

Hmmm I might actually just use the SVS, and put the Joule in that for large cooks. (not even plug the SVS into power! Ha!!

Do what you like, although, the size would still be a concern, as the largest sous vide supreme is still a bit shy of three gallons. Again, if you have no intention of cooking large items, you should be good to go.

I got an email today about the refund and verifying my shipping address. I am pretty certain that Joule will ship next month. The app has gone public so they are getting everything in order. I don't think you are getting ahead of yourself. I ordered my LIPAVI back in March as I wanted a smaller clear cambro type container, I just lucked out that they make a lid that fits perfectly. Because Joule is so small I find I am using it more often in a Dutch oven as much as anything else.

Goo to know about all of these things and I am sure that such coolers can be easily used in
dissertation
offices and can be much more efficient due to energy saving feature.
