App iOS version

Are there any plans to make the app available to us iOS 7 users who are out here with an iphone 4? I already snagged a joule and realize now the rest of my tech is too old to actually use it.

I actually had the same problem, but realized it before preordering. Luckily, I had an amazon tablet (the Fire, specifically) that I purchased during a sale on black Friday. Chances are pretty slim for them to make it compatible with iOS 7... But you can get a device that will work for $50 or less.

I know spending more money isn't ideal, but if you search around for an old android smartphone or tablet, you can definitely find one for between $20-$30.

The main issue is that the iPhone 4 doesn't support Bluetooth 4 (BLE or Low Energy, now also called Bluetooth 4 Smart). You have to have a 4S or higher, or an iPad Gen 3 or higher.

I don't work for Chefsteps but I do work for a company that makes Bluetooth connected devices and we have the same issue with what we can support. Using BLE keeps the device maker from having to get the device approved and pay a huge licensing fee to the Bluetooth consortium (and I think there's another fee for Apple). That's why there's been an explosion in the number of Bluetooth devices since BLE came out. But as you ran into, the device has to have the BLE chip.

Android has the same problem, and those devices are all over the place hardware-wise since there are so many different manufacturers.

Thanks all. Turns out I will be getting a 6 in short order probably.. so no issues. Other than what to cook first.
