I'm more intrigued to know what will transpire in a week more than I'm excited about receiving Joule!

I'm very sure everyone at Chefstep is working round the clock.

I love a mystery so I'm taking a couple of wild guesses on why everyone has gone radio silence.

1) jumped the gun on the price cut and refunds. With Hanjin shipping crisis, shipping rates soared. Due to thinner margins, Chefsteps had to wait out for rates to drop. Probably chose a cheaper shipping alternative with no clear arrival timeline.

2) approached by investor for an acquisition having seen the potential of Joule. They are in negotiations now, hence the silence.

Anyway we will all know in a week!:)

Interesting theories. I'm growing more impatient, but have so far just been sitting back and watching the bickering without being too upset. Most surprising is how people get upset at other people for being upset themselves!

My purchase was a replacement for a defective (DOA) Anova I received for Christmas that was to replace a defective (out of warranty) VacMaster sous vide. At the time I convinced the gift giver that it wouldn't be too long to wait for May and I liked the overall product much more than the Anova. That gift giver is becoming more impatient than me, waiting on her home cooked sous vide dinner!

Theory 1 seems unlikely. I guess the new sales lost from word of mouth while customers aren't using their product and talking about them outweigh any unexpected ocean freight costs.

I wouldn't be surprised at all about theory 2.

In my opinion the most likely is their Chinese contract manufacturer has screwed the pooch, and CS is either struggling to find out what's really going on, or is hesitant to break the bad news.

I hope I'm wrong because I'm rooting for CS and that's a really uncomfortable situation to be in.

I agree with AngelArs.

As impatient and frustrated some of us may be, you can be sure that the ChefSteps crew is way, way, way more stressed about getting this product perfect and into our hands ASAP then we are. Building a company like ChefSteps then pulling together a great team of chefs and engineers to design and manufacture a world-class product like Joule is a massive task. Their jobs page shows that they are continuing to add engineers and even a Senior Operations / InStock Manager. The product description for Joule shows that they have very, very high standards. It takes time to make great products, and a Murphy’s Law always disrupts the best laid plans.

I think their handling of the price change showed an impressive level of business integrity. The recent radio silence on these forums does seem out of character, but I'm confident they’ll come through and we’ll all be raving about how awesome Joule is soon enough.

There are times to use the stick and times to use the carrot. I’m guessing they’ve had a couple of rough weeks, and carrots might be welcome (metaphorically speaking). Besides, let’s not make them regret their decision to develop great products. After a few months of using Joule, we’ll be eager to hear about their next cool product.
